Windows

Featured Replies

Hi guys been washing my superb and can't get the water/dust spots of the screens. I have used a the shampoo for the car and then a good shammy leather but still water spots. Also got lots of tar spots so looking for something to get them off but leave the paint lol

For the tar - a bug/tar remover and some clay bar will do wonders.

For the window spots - because the windows are polarized it makes the spots show up more - a basic polish or even a glass polish brings them out perfectly, soap and a shammy wont do the job as its hard water spots basically.

For the tar, something like this…

You might as well get iron fallout whilst you’re at it so something like this…

I wouldn’t bother with a clay bar. You sound pretty new to this so just leave that. Two products like the above will do what you need for now.

Remember and wax with something after, to protect the paint. Opt for a microfibre cloth as well over a chamois.

I think we can all agree that there isnt a single best path or practice to receive a desired result.

Personally with tar, ill start off with a tar remover and leave it to dwell and this will take the majority off, afterwards I wet the panel down and use a clay bar and this takes all the smudged tar out perfectly.

Agree with @ApertureS.

incidentally front flaps almost entirely eliminates stuck tar, but they're seen as undesirable in the UK!

My windows are always the same after every wash, but a polish with a glass cleaner clears all the water and dust spots.

I washed mine yesterday and will polish the windows and car today ready to go away next week.  At 70, washing and polishing the car in one day is too much for my old bones!

Wow - when were Polarised windows introduced to the S3?

I would assume they are at least partially polarized - the reason I say this for the rear window at least is when you wear polarized sunglasses and look through the rear window you get the funny effect of double polarization. That is just my input on it, I might be completely wrong. Same thing was my Audi A4's rear window and that was polarized.

I’ve just searched and I can’t find any reference to polarised windows being fitted to Skoda vehicles. I’ve just checked mine and there’s no sign of Polarised jaggies when looking through any of the windows and there’s no issue with the polarising filter on the rear dashcam either. Do you think it might be something to do with the auto-dimming mirror/s?

Since buying a Race glaze water filter, I have no issues with white spots any longer. To extend its efficiency, I’m running a separate outside tap from the home filtered water this weekend, which will make the bloody expensive resin last longer.

I was looking at these, which size did you go for? the 7 or 14 litre?

Regarding the polarizing, my car is at the body shop but ill double check im not getting confused when its back next week hopefully!

The windows aren't polarised ..   they are toughened which involves heat treatment which is what leaves the 'coloured dots' etc you see through polarised sunglasses when looking at them

The 7 litre as I bought it for £30 on Nextdoor.
