Thats it all windows and doors are sealed tight :D .

Spiders are truly fascinating - preferably from a distance. If you can get a shot of the diamonds on a web from the early morning dew, that is something also.

That specimen is very good - the Canon 350d that is, LOL Does it have a powerful zoom lens as some spiders jump. True that is - and usually a blinking lot faster than I do. Be warned.

 Handy tip: Put the plug in first? BTW, spiders do like to live in pipe-type runs (rather than crevices), IOW they are more likely to be breeding in the overflow above the plughole. You can cut a disc from a piece of washing-up bottle to fit into/over most overflows without defeating the purpose though :)

With Chris's spider, Chris, you could probably just wave a chequered flag and get an action shot...

Sounds like a blue peter special to me

Saw this big beauty when we went to @Bristol last weekend

It's a Goliath

We get these in our garden. Biggest we've had was in the bathroom - SWMBO felt it run across her bare foot whilst cleaning her teeth. It was about 3" across.

Get these little buggers (well not so little really lol) Scampering all over the show!!! Jsalpuged.JPG

One of the cheeky buggers mooched onto my mates lap, and was just sat there looking at him!!! I have never seen a fat bloke move so fast

What the Frag is one of those???

AS for the spider, it looks like a rather gorgeous specimen of the average Tegenaria Gigantea (european house spider). At first I thought it was one of the Segestria family, but the markings arn't quite right. I'm fascinated by spiders, but hate them in equal measure.....

That is a camel spider :) There be loads of 'em knocking around there there parts. We also get wolf spiders as well

Not entirely sure, but the spider in the original photo looks like a Nursery Web Spider (pisaura mirabilis).

horrible things, in Hong Kong we used to have ones that jumped from wall to wall..the size of an average hand...and when they get behind a light all you would getr was a huuuuge shadow of a monster jumping spider!!! horrible erk!:o

Who, WHO in there right mind would pick that up?!

I think the spider has grabbed the man by the hand and is pulling him up towards his lair!

Quite so. There's nowt worse than having a dirty spider in the bath with you. I mean, Euuuuw.

Incidentally, my sister has one that arrives daily on the arm of their telly-watching settee, so it seems they might not like baths, but do like soaps *groan*

True though. Perhaps explained because most have homes exactly as we do, so come out to watch TV and get food, then go home again. It's the vagrants which run diagonally that I worry about - I'm knitting red spotted hankies for those poor homeless ones

Errrrrrrgggghhhhh! I have had to read this thread with my hands over my eyes (well I left a little gap obviously). What sort of lens did you use for the shot Chris Ellis? It
