Cabin-filter for non-aircon 1.6 MPI Felicia Pickup - I've designed a solution.

Featured Replies

I got annoyed with the lack of available filters for my newly acquired pickup. The previous owner hadn't found one either - the thing is full of dust.

So... I've designed a grid that should fit
on most 3D printers, and if anyone wants, I'll put the file on Thingiverse. Just print two and they fit together. (Same username as here)

It fits in the "correct" place, and is to support any filter-material, and has little spikes to stop it from shifting.  I'm going to experiment with making a pleated filter from a large synthetic vacuum-cleaner bag, but for now it has a cleanable fleece-style filter from a cooling fan in it to stop the tiny flies. 175FA7E2-B445-4EF8-892E-6A740C8A4533.jpeg.a8c6a22878a7317cb26591a7ffa9fe82.jpegD5F08BC8-6A98-4289-9611-013E9B56CD7B.jpeg.ac9fb8f9c6d064c964d3a188c9cd94e5.jpegB6C992C2-70DE-4B26-8A4A-53557191249A.jpeg.22dcae984a7bb7245b9f9d5c7a7b67ba.jpeg450109EB-3E18-44AE-8FC8-AFBAD0C020C6.jpeg.18c2f620c7d357d0b0ff7495c7cd86af.jpeg

I might make a second part to "clamp" the filter down. I'll test it first.

The current design would need supports... I'll fix that.

It looks like our housings could have the same sizes.

370x180mm roughly... does that sound right?

I'll check my dimensions tomorrow.

370x137 is the dimension of the component. Measure yours and see if that's right :)

(and it is 18mm thick)

That looks like it could be done Nigel: A little trim and a new card edge, and I think one would fit.

I'm fairly confident it'd be rigid enough to be possible without the grid too.

I'm mostly arsing about with materials I have lying around. but I'll investigate modifying ready-made cabin filters if I don't manage what I want.  For all I know, I just made the ultimate mouse-bed :D

I think your grid looks great and think it's very good of you to offer it out.

I was also thinking of those without your facilities and materials might just be able to fit that filter, but I don't know as I don't know the model.

Trim and new edge would be the limit of my capabilities, if I couldn't achieve a (forced) interference fit.

Looking again, if it's a paper filter and exposed to rain it would need other material to protect it if used on the grid or if there's drainage to the chamber the grid sits on and the paper filter is tucked to the side, away from your grid, then the grid and filter would be two stages of filter, grid for larger debris and to help prevent blockage of drain and filter to, er, further filter.

So possibly the Mann filter isn't so good with the grid, that might be better with other filter material but for those without the grid the Mann filter might be a solution.

If you have access to some light denier stockings or tights you could try that for a filter screen, if you don't cut them they can be returned if they don't work and no one need know. 😄

The problem is that beneath that sponge filter there is no room for anything else to fit, there is some sort of plastic cover which makes the intake narrow, i can barely put my fingers inside for few cm only.

The grid fits into the "bottom" of part 15.

I'll take pics when it's not raining like hell!!

If you Google "synthetic fiber filter" you can find the likes of stuff I'm using on rolls or in flat sheets. Just got to shape with scissors. :)

I'm sure there are better versions - the stuff I had is 8mm thick and backed with a super-fine nylon mesh.

It won't stop pollen, but thunder-bugs (thrills or whatever you know them as) won't get through. 👍

Thanks, I was thinking your grid was fitted higher up and was wondering about it getting wet.

I thought you might be going with some stuff like you are by the use of the hooks on your grid (otherwise you could have sandwich plate grid but more work and materials.  I wonder how much air  and air movement the stuff might block, road trials required.

As you can see things are ''very tight'' in there and lot of dust manages to pass through that sponge filter.

Oooh. I see.

It looks as though We do not have the same system. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yes, that's why i opened the thread about the possibility of modification, there is no space for something additional inside there and i don't know anyone who will take the risk to create something like a plastic drawer with an extra filter inside.

Guys with models like this

are very lucky and breath far more cleaner air than us.

If i could find a housing like yours, I'd happily design a solution for you ... but I don't know where to find one.

what model do you have?

Thank you sir but the space is not enough, if it gets higher there would be a problem with the oval ''lips" of the hood because they touch the sponge filter so the motor can suck air via the outside grilles.

I have a Felicia 2000 year model, 1300cc AMH with 68 PS

Here is my engine bay, i have A/C and this make things very tight inside the plastic box.
