Collected Sportline Plus yesterday. Kerbed the wheels today!😭

Featured Replies

As the title says. Picked up my '19 plate Sportline Plus from the dealer yesterday. Nice drive back.

Parked up quickly today as entered a space with traffic passing - managed to kerb both nearside wheels in doing so.

19" Vegas scratched to ****.

I am a very unhappy man.

I’d never kerbed a wheel in 45 years of driving several ‘00 cars. Got the 280 and had done all four in two months. And then did one for a second time a few months ago. 🙄

I call my Vegas "kerb feelers".

I'm sure it's nothing to do with a lack of driver skill, but simply a case of trying to drive a big car on small roads.

Maybe try 235/45R18 tyres on 7.5Jx18 ET50 rims from the VW iD.3

These ET50 rims would move the centre of the tyre/rim 6mm inwards on each side of the car, compared to the standard ET44 rims.

The 0.5" narrower 7.5J rims will move the edge of the rim 6.35mm inwards on each side of the car, compared to the standard 8J rims.

The combined effect of the 6mm and 6.35mm improvement, is a total improvement of 12.35mm on each side of the car.

It will be like driving a 24.7mm narrower car. Great for driving through those pesky 2m (6ft6in) width restrictions.

As you can see in the chart below, 235/45R18 fitted to a 7.5J rim is a legal fitment. You can also see, that 235/40R19 can't be fitted to a 7.5J rim as this tyre size needs at least an 8J rim to be legal.

Extract from ETRTO manual

235/45 7.5-8.0-9.0

235/40 8.0-8.5-9.5

I can't post pictures of mine, it's too upsetting!

it was simply a case of reversing out of a herringbone space with a twit who’d parked to my OS, who had with 3 feet clear in front of him, making my exit a challenge, whilst there was a Tesco delivery van behind the area I was reversing into on my NS. The NS kerb was very high and as I was trying to avoid the rear of twit and manoeuvring round the Tesco bloke, thus touching the NS kerb. Dammit!!! Another £80 to Alan the wheel Doctor….🙄

Oh I did. 👍🏻

To be honest, the prices of all these type of professional services have gone through the roof, primarily because of the huge volume of work they’re getting and, of course, the cost of fuel.

Yep, just had a quote for £78 per wheel - not the worst in the world. Still trying to track down somewhere nearby that will fit rim protectors too.

….. and then I did the other side of the same wheel yesterday morning. 😖 So can someone delete this thread please?? 😂

I don't have a superb, but I find on my octavia that the mirrors are really narrow (maybe I'm too used to driving vans). I went with the uncool option and put a blindspot mirror on nearside.

I too, coming from a T5 van that I could place with a pin-point accuracy, find the Superb mirrors poor, even the 'area view' is not as good as I expected.

Start investing in powdercoaters 😂

Unfortunately, it wouldn't make any difference what the finish was; sadly, that awful grawnching sound as one hits the kerb would provide the same result.

True, but after a few sets you might start to get discount 😁

He sorted a great discount today.

Grrr. Bloke was booked in to do the 'minor' repair first thing this morning.

Turns up, takes one look at the wheels and says there's nothing he can do, no idea why his company sent him out.

Bloody waste of time.  Looks like a full refurb is the only way. *sigh*

FFS. Lets see them Jakester.

(Incidentally these were the photos sent to the company and on which they provided their quotes, so it should have been apparent whether or not they could do it....)

**** - only just noticed that! I wonder WTF is going on there! I bought it from a main dealer so just presumed they were all the same!
