Help with replacement Bridgestone on 2022 vRS

Featured Replies

I've got a puncture that isn't reparable.  The tyres on my car are Bridgestone Potenza S005 225/40/19.  The Skoda tyre scheme uses Kwikfit or National Tyres, and they can only supply a Potenza S001.  Anyone know what the difference is?  I seem to remember manufacturer tyres often have different numbers in the name but are essentially the same tyre.  Hopefully someone in the group can shed some light on this.

By the looks of things they are completely different tyres and tread patterns so I wouldn't let them fit what they have as you'll have a mismatch across an axle.  Either get them to source the correct tyre of argue for two matching tyres.

dont know if am missing something, always  thought in the uk it was ok to have different treads or  makes on car wheels

It is probably OK but personally I try to avoid it - different grip levels across an axle is not god (ie wet grip might be good on one side but not the other so a different response when turning left from right for example).

For me if it's avoidable I avoid it (based on crappy tyres on my MX5 many years ago when I bought it)

And if I 'd paid for the Skoda Tyre Scheme as the OP seems to have I'd want it 'right'

Apparently the S001 is a cheaper tyre and its the Potenza Sport i need as that is more similar to the S005 that is on it already.

I asked the tyre scheme about the mismatch of tyres if they can't replace it with the same one and they said only the damaged tyre is covered 😞  This will annoy me to be fair and i'll try my best to burn through the front pair so i can replace them both.

The Potenzas in my OP are mince. Ive had them as OEM on a few cars and they dont like the wet. I done some research when changing my Goody F1 SS's ( under 4mil at 8k miles) and went with Hankook Evo S3. In my Op a very good tyre , great grip in dry and wet. You will see this tyre on top end Audi RS's now as OEM.

Plus its cheaper than the Mitch PS4S of Conti 6 .

Everybody has an op when it comes to tyres

Worth finding a screw in the good one to get a matching pair?? 😉

I have a 2021 vRS Wagon and I damaged my left front S005 and Bridgestone here could not supply another. They recommended a Turanza T005 as being a) suitable and b) available without a long wait, so I went with that.

Since I did not want to have mismatched tyres on the front wheels, both in age and in type, I also replaced the undamaged right front tyre which only had 5000 kms on it.

I have been quite happy with the Turanzas.

Firstly, if a tyre scheme refused to replace a tyre with the same type as the car came with, then really the scheme doesn’t deserve your money, and I would be asking for my money back.

However the Bridgestone S005 is no longer on sale in UK (although someone might have existing stock), so can’t really blame them.

The current choice is :

Potenza S001 (probably best described as basic version in range)

Potenza S007 (for high speed super sports vehicles - Bridgestones words)

Potenza Sport (new, probably the best replacement)

Turanza T005 (I am separating this as it is officially a summer touring tyre, so aimed at different market from Potenza range.) so don’t want one of these and 3 Potenza on the car.

I suppose the real lesson is don’t sign up to tyre schemes, unless they hold stocks, or have access to) the type already fitted.  Otherwise scheme is hassle and might as well have got your local tyre shop to order one in.

The tyre scheme and alloy insurance came with the car.  It was reasonably cheap, £250 for both when they wanted £250 each for 3 years.  Information on the schemes was rather lacking though, i was told just turn up at Kwik Fit and they'll know your covered.  Turns out that wasn't true at all, and i managed to find an email with my policy document on and you have to call the scheme first to register a claim, then send photos of the damage and wait for it to be approved.  This would be a pain if I was in a rush.  But they did say they will replace upto £300 and if I use another tyre fitter and pay myself I can claim the money back providing they call the insurer first to agree a replacement is needed.

In the end I managed to get the S005 repaired so its all good for now.  I'll replace the fronts ready for the winter with something else that is more readily available.  Maybe Potenza Sports for Pilot 4s but i've not decided yet.

i got my car 3 weeks ago and the tyres are bridgestone t005 yet when i hit 74 mph it flashes up caution winter tyres.why?

Hello Jos, there is a setting in the infotainment system, settings - 'winter tyre speed warning' - if normal tyres are fitted, you need to uncheck the box.

If these are on mine when it arrives, then I'll be looking at changing the tyres ASAP.

I'll be looking at some Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric 5s.

@Joss1733You go to settings and Winter Tyres and cancel or set to some warning speed that suits you. Maybe 100 mph where that would get a ban.

Since no Winter Tyres are on that can maybe be used as a different speed from your other Speed Warning you can set on the car.

The car does not know what tyres are on,

the setting @ 74 mph will have been done by someone in error.    Or a glitch with the car and it is set for 119 kp/h

Reading the Owners Manual will help greatly.

Why do you want asymmetric 5 and not newer asymmetric 6 ?

Because I couldn't find the 6s. I'm not going to think about it until nearer the time anyway, but I don't like Bridgestones or Pirelli tyres anyway.
