I'm Confused on Bulbs (2013/63 Mk3 SE Estate) - Plus Best LED Headlignts (if it's worth it!)

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a 2013 63 Plate Octavia Mk3 SE Estate - 1969cc 150bhp TDi, Very low 33k on the clock.

My previous car was a 2013 13 Plate Fabia Greenline II Estate, and the Manual for that car had all the relevant Internal/External Bulbs listed (as well as Oil type, Coolant type etc...) But I've read the Manual from Cover to Cover (all the cars paperwork/Bills were included in the sale) and I can't find an equivalent list in the book! I know the Headlights are H7's (or at least 2 of them are) and the Internal lights are W5W's (I've already replaced these with White LED's)

Does anyone have the Definitive list of Bulbs (and Fluids) for this car!?

Also... I'm intrigued by LED conversion Headlights (Brake Lights, Fogs, Sides and Indicators) for a cleaner 'Non Yellow' look!, Is it worth it, is it legal? Is it easy!? What's the best conversion/kits out there! that won't Madly Flash or give Errors on the Dash!? Why do some Headlight kits have Fans and some don't!??

Thanks Guys!

Check the markings on the headlights, if they are halogen bulbs then that will confirm they are only Type Approved for halogen bulbs, that means that fitting with HID or LED bulbs will be an MOT fail (as well as being of questionable legality).

The headlamp bulbs will most likely be an H7 for main beam and an H15 dual filament for dipped beam and DRL - that's what they were on my 2015 15 plate Octavia 3.

I suggest looking at brighter, but shorter life, halogen bulbs such as Osram Night Breaker or similar.

The vast majority (all?) exterior bulbs are monitored so replacing any of them with LEDs will generate a bulb failure warning, but these can be removed by changing the appropriate adaptation channel in the BCM to tell it that the bulb type is LED.

As Dave mentioned, LED headlight conversions aren't as simple as switching the bulb.

You'd need new headlights designed for LED's which don't exist for a pre-FL MK3. You could retrofit original xenon headlights but you'd need to add/swap various control modules, level sensors, headlight washers along with coding/wiring changes. Unless you find some bargain headlights, it's probably not worth it.

As for the tail lights, you can retrofit LED clusters from other Octavia's but I think you'll need a wiring adaptor and coding changes.

Thought as much! 😁

I've never heard of an H15 bulb... Did wonder how it was DRL and High Beam 🤔 cheers...

I'll be sticking with Halogen on the Exterior (already done LED's front and Rear interior lights and the Boot lights)

But I do want a 'whiter' light than is standard! so I'll look around! What's best Osram or Philips etc...
