Looking for a Skoda Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm looking for a SKODA Yeti with the following spec. I'm regularly scouring eBay, Autotrader and Gumtree, but mostly full of traders with their dealer shenagigans.

MUST HAVES:

  • 2 litre
  • Diesel
  • Auto
  • 4WD
  • Full service history, or at least proof of the important bits having been done (Haldex, DSG, Cambelt, Waterpump).
  • DAB Radio (so probably Amundsen info unit, rather than Bolero)

WOULD BE NICE TO HAVES:

  • Towbar
  • Park assist
  • Leather seats

DON'T WANT:

  • Anything older than 2015
  • Not interested in the L&K coz I actually don't like sunroofs!
  • Not keen on the 170

So I reckon it'd have to be either an SE-L or an Elegance

Oh, ideally somewhere within 150 miles of Oxfordshire, but happy to travel a bit further for the right car.

..try giving Phil a call at Overton Skoda near Ludlow on 01584 872584....(he doesn't do web sites), and should be well within your 150 mile radius.....

Thanks mate! Will give him a call next week!

An old friend of mine in Trowbridge, Wilts is currently selling his:

2.0 TDI SCR (150PS) 4X4 SE L Outdoor DSG 5-Dr 5dr
It's green! aidan.gif
Jan 2016 Registered.
120,000 miles (just run in thumb.gif )
2.0 TDi 148BHP
6 Sp DSG Gearbox - lovely smooth change
Tan leather interior
Sat Nav (recent map update)
DAB radio, full Bluetooth, touch screen display.
Electric windows all round
Heated front seats
Air con (recent re-gas)
Full Skoda service history
Detachable towbar (light towing use only)
I am the second owner
Full size spare wheel.
Currently on winter steel wheels and normal tyres (16").
Also set of standard alloy wheels (but will need new tyres on those 17")
Auto start/stop
Xenon Headlights

Will probably think of a load more extras it's got, so will add them later. Basically a rock solid car that's in good overall condition but has a supermarket ding in the drivers door and a weird small area of paintwork flaking on the front bumper. See pics, only noticed this a few weeks ago, no idea how it started. No major stone chips, but it's a 6 year old 120k car so isn't immaculate. Also has a scratch on the drivers seat (see pic) caused by a screwdriver in the back pocket, otherwise seats and interior all very clean.

Drives superbly, averages 48 - 50mpg around town, a bit more on motorway, and 35mpg when towing a small box trailer. Everything works just as it should, had no issues in my ownership - had the Haldex oil and timing belt/water pump service done when I bought it 3 years ago, so another year before that is due again.

Pictures taken before I've had a chance to clean it, may get it professionally valeted if I have time.

Priced to sell, given mileage and condition, £8000 firm.

If you're interested, I'll PM you his number.

Seen this on Autotrader! https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202207107653526

Needs a better pic of the ding on there.

For a car up for sale the inside is very untidy and dusty and the engine compartment is disgusting.

...would certainly out me off....would not even bother going to view it!!

You at least see how the car is and how used unlike once a car has had the Kerb Side Auto steam clean and tyre wall shine added and looks great but all that glitters is not gold.

Full servicing record with the invoices and receipts is what matters as anyone can joey up a car like ones that go through an auction and get prepped for a dealer.

Exactly this. Went to see a Yeti yesterday at a dealer. SO SO Shiny under the showroom lights! Got a little torch out and scanned the body work, and boom, suddenly, it looks like the car was a cat scratching post. Torch light trick shown to me by a motorcycle mechanic friend 🙂

I think, on balance of things, I'm not interested in this car, as I'd not want to undertake the door ding repair, and as much as I want, the high mileage is a bit of a turn off as well. I keep telling myself that these cars are fine for high mileages, but I'm a "one spanner" maybe "two spanner" level DIYer, so 60/70k miles is probably my sweet spot.

The door ding is a £150 repair max.

When somebody gets shot of a rough or troublesome car to WBAC, AC, Evans Halshaw etc etc it then goes on sale at £1,500-£2,500 more looking lovely.

Still the same possibly poorly serviced vehicle with issues that need addressed and money spending to have a good car.

Sometimes buying the car as is and budgeting in the Major Servicing and replacement parts and some bodywork / valeting is where the best deal is.

As traders do, add a premium.

..problem is that when I see a car in the condition as the one advertised I just walk away as it says to me that the owner doesn't really care? Also note that the advert says "good condition", which raises expectations when it clearly isn't (IMHO). However I accept that some mingers can be polished up to look great so you are seeing the car "as it is", while most cars can be polished up nicely if the exterior is basically sound, the interior is normally the give away if the car has had a hard life.

For me it would need to have the full service history, drive well with everthing working AND looking good...but that's just me. Also as cars are currently silly price levels I would expect a high level of finish.

When I first thought about selling mine (pre covid), the WBAC price as around £12k, 2+ years later I part exchanged it for £14,750. During those years the price peaked at £17k which is not far off what I paid for it, and is currently about what the car is being advertised at. By now I would have realistically expected it to be around £9k, but then the car I was buying should probably be a couple of grand less...so swings and roundabouts.

Will be interesting to see what happens when / if things get back to normal and second had car prices return to a more realistic level, and also how the car dealers who have large stocks at inflated prices will manage this?  ...answers on a post card....

It can be an error made by many thinking that a Skoda / VW Group Approved Used Car with a Full Main Dealer Service History has been serviced to the Manufacturers Recommendations, Guidelines or even schedule or specifications because only too often they are not.

Not the Haldex, (The VAQ on cars with that) the DSG the Cambelt or the Brake Fluid.

So with a FMDSH what you want is to know that stuff was actually done when it should of been and the OP might already have come across where that is not the case.

..very true, and one of the reasons I gave up looking for a "newer" Yeti, particularly as I wanted an auto and was concerned about some of the problems being reported, (admittedly very low case numbers, but very expensive to fix if you were one of the unlucky ones). I was not bothered about AWD as again these can be problematic on older cars if the "correct" servicing has not been carried out. Likwise I would not want a pan roof again for similar reasons, particularly on older cars.

The current cars are overpriced and combined with even the youngest ones getting on for 6 years old, and all my previous Skoda's had all started to cost money around that age and it seems that WAG will not accept any liability for even design/manufacturing faults outside of the normal warranty period...

Would doubt if many used car prices will come down much. Certainly for anything even vaguely desirable or sought after anyway. Along with gov’s on going ev push. Also massive delivery times on new stuff for the foreseeable until the big players get all there outsourced electronics pulled back in house, which will likely take years to ramp up. Would say used buyers may have to adjust what they perceive as a good deal.

Good Afternoon,

Some interesting comments about my car & advert I see......

Seems a few of you didn't read the full description, as it did state the pics were taken before I had cleaned it, and that it was good condition considering it's age & mileage.  No matter, you all have your own opinions. It's a genuine car, that I ran for 3 years, putting 20k per year on it with no issues whatsoever. It still drives exceptionally well, you wouldn't know it had done 120k, and now I've had time to clean it up a bit it does look very nice - including the engine bay. I'll try and get some more pictures done when I have time, if anyone is interested.

Can you explain pictures 13 and 14 in the advert? I assume its the front bumper but cant work out where.

Also has it had DSG oil change /service  every 40k plus Haldex oil change/service ?

I may be interested but it must have documentary evidence of those services as if they go wrong they are expensive.

I suspect it is gone, advert no longer available.

Advert disappeared whilst I was typing.

🤔

Sorry guys, yes the Autotrader ad has expired. Waiting on a few enquiries as to whether I re-activate it or not.

To answer Idleness's questions:

The paintwork pictures are from the nearside front bumper, along the creaseline above the fog lamp. Ni idea what caused it, but it's simply a layer of paint that has cracked and then lifter along about 2 inches. The servicing I had done at Turners of Erlestoke - a Skoda main dealer, so I would think they carried out all required Haldex/DSG oil changes etc, but I will go through the paperwork tonight to check.

Car is still available, I am open to sensible offers. Happy to go out on an accompanied test drive.

The Paper Work showing work done or invoiced for is very important because the Online Service Records are not always that good.

Skoda Main Dealers only do what they get paid to do and not all tell customers what is required such as the DSG servicing or the Haldex or if they do the Haldex actually do it properly.

Looking at the paper invoices for the 3 services I've had carried out, by Turners or Erlestoke, there is no direct mention of DSG or Haldex, however, I had the Haldex oil changed when I bought the car at 57,000 miles. Each of the 3 services at Turners states carry out variable service. I would have thought they would do what is necessary in a service without prompting though?

You would think that the required service schedule should be followed to the letter. Unfortunately many many main stealers don’t do it or do it properly as Root’ has already said. Particularly swapping/keeping low mileage users on variable services plans so that you pre-pay maybe for an oil change, no filters and a spit n polish in 3 years. Then the next owner thinks they are getting full main dealer service history when in reality very little has been done.

Oh many a delusional owner has been caught by that .... esp with VAG unfortunately

"oh yes its on the service menu/schedule, but we don't advise or prompt ... you should have asked!"

Receipts for what was paid for at Services is sometimes all you get as an idea of what was done at a service, and the Invoice for the parts and consumables.

A Variable Service if just an Engine Oil & Filter Service and look see and report is not that much.  Minor, Major Services with the Major having a Pollen Filter change was only too common.

Then the Haldex falls into being at 3 years as does brake fluid changes (then they are at 2 years) so that does not tie in with 2nd year, 4th year, 6th year servicing.

All just, recommendations, guidelines, suggestions until recently when Skoda use the word Schedule.
