Is it possible to set some new 'defaults'?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

2014 Škoda Superb VIN TMBME73T4F9023013 2.0TDi 140 4x4 estate.

Overall, I have been pleased with my first year of ownership. However, there are a few minor niggles that I'd appreciate some advice on:

1. I have a Columbus multi-function system fitted, which strikes me as slow to operate, but is pretty good otherwise. Is it possible to set a default scale on the map whenever it is turned on? Living in rural Norfolk, I want minor road detail on all the time - which only comes on at 400yds and below, so I'd like the default scale set to 400yds.

2. I am unsure what version the maps or software in the GPS are, or how they are updated.

3. Although when selecting reverse I get a screen saying it has 'optical sensors', which work fine, it strikes me that a reversing camera would be a good addition, displaying  on the Columbus screen - is this possible?

4. Can I get the folding mirrors to fold immediately I lock the vehicle (like every other vehicle I've owned with folding mirrors🙄)? At present, I have to keep the lock button on the remote pressed for five seconds or so before this happens.

5. Whilst we are on the subject of mirrors, can I change settings so that the heating elements come on with the heated rear window (again, like every car I've ever owned🤦‍♂️)? I honestly thought they weren't heated, until I stumbled across a post here about it - whose bright idea was that?

As I said, all minor stuff, but fixing them would make the car more enjoyable to use. Any advice appreciated...

Thanks,

Mike 😎

Can possibly help a little with Q1.  When you click on the scale button on map screen you can set to an Auto zoom option (which usually (but not always 😞 gets remembered after power cycle) which when you have a route planned does a good job of zooming in when you need it (e.g. when you come to a route instruction point to show the junction in detail) and then zooms out when you don't (e.g. when cruising on Motorway).

Maps are updated via DVD (normally, there is also a back door option to use SD card and CD as some units have problems reading dual layer DVDs, especially copy discs).  Latest map from recollection was released late 2019.  Can download off web or buy pre-burnt discs off eBay (same as VW RNS510 maps)  Search for Columbus map update in this forum for further info'

As far as I'm aware "auto" folding is only possible with long keypress.  Actually prefer that as I only fold mine when needed (e.g. tight parking spots) to minimise wear on mechanism.

When I first bought my facelift superb in 2014 did try to link mirror heaters with rear and/or front heating element button with VCDS but couldn't find a way.  The heating elements do seem to auto switch off (not sure if time or temperature based) so you can leave the mirrors in heat position if you want without fear of beating elements burning out (although of course you don't then have auto dipping mirror when selecting reverse, first world problem!)

Thanks chimaera. The original link is dead in that post - would this be the same thing?

Pretty much.

There's a lowline version too which doesn't have the control module - the main difference is you don't get the grid on the screen when it's active.

I think I'll go for the Full Monty... 😆
