EVC Throttle Controller - Great upgrade

Featured Replies

So recently purchased one of these and it has made such a huge difference in how the car response now and has improved the driveability of the Superb.

Throttle should have been this responsive from the factory, mines is a 2015 280 L&K tuned to stage 3 and it compliments the low boost map in comfort/normal modes now.

This seems like a far from standard engine to me.

Even with a standard engine it will improve the throttle response vastly.

When you say ‘tuned to stage 3’ can we have an idea of specs, what has been done and such. Very interested to hear how much power you’re putting out

I agree AS; it’s exactly like it should have been stock. The Racechip XLR controller I have certainly makes a huge difference, especially eliminating that ridiculous, annoying and potentially very dangerous throttle lag.

Did you buy this from the classifieds?  if you did that was a bargain! :)

I did, along with a Racechip GTS Black. That takes it in BS form to 330’ish BHP and 480’ish Nm. I have it set to Sport +2 and the acceleration in D is ridiculous, from SS (not Launch Control) and in the midrange. God alone knows what yours at Stage 3 must be like!

😆 Put it this way, you run out of road very quickly!  That's decent gains from a plug n play chip!

I've got to say the Throttle Controller had made me want to drive the car a lot more, at first I thought it was my tuning that at was fault.  I have it set at Ultimate 1 and its brilliant.  Most people set at U2 , it goes all the way to U9!

After my few mishaps last year I'm so glad that the car is coming to together nicely, just a few bits to be now.

Yeah, you certainly do! The pace is quite extraordinary.

It is and I’m doubtful whether the JB4 is really anymore effective, regardless of the additional connections and CANbus control it has. And I really wouldn’t want the ability to pi$$ around with the air/fuel mixture to extract the last ounce of performance.
And for a laugh, I turned it to the ECO setting today and it was like driving my Mums Moskvich! Well…not exactly; the brakes actually work on the 280..

What make / model of throttle pedal did you get?

Earlier this year I put a RaceChip XLR throttle pedal box on my wife's Karoq 1.5 DSG 4 x 4 & it certainly livened it up no end & took out the biblical hesitation it had. It even feels like it now has an extra 20-30hp which of course it doesn't.

Like all DSG equipped cars my 280 (now running stage 1 360) does hesitate a bit from take off as well. Sport mode improves it a bit but there's still an underlying delay between the right foot & any forward motion until it gets into it's stride when it's inner hooligan takes over. Sounds like a a cost effective solution to the hesitation problem that all DSG's seem to have without having to resort to a DSG remap.

@Colin170CR, have a look and see if the electrical connections are the same on the Karoq as you may be able to test the pedal box on the Superb. This is guesswork by me but I did buy my pedal box that had originally come off a Superb 1.4 TSI.

You're probably right. The pedals & connections are probably the same on the Superb & Karoq so I will have a look to see if a swap is possible. I was thinking about getting one for my Superb but due to all the price increases lately I've had to cut back on all unnecessary spending for the time being.

It's the 201L model.  Also I have a dsg map aswell and there was still lag.

so no don't know if a Tuner can improve the the throttle response.

Who’s your Stage 1 (360 hp) with and what torque are you achieving?

Mine is a Revo remap. Torque is between 450 & 480nm.

Revo

Ok thanks. And you’re happy with it?  No issues?  And can I ask what year your car is please?

No issues at all. Fitted / programmed by a local VAG independent & authorised Revo specialist in 2020 & all coded up (whatever that entailed). https://www.vagtech.co.uk/

Mine's a 2016 (66 plate) 280 L&K estate.

New water pump & thermostat fitted earlier this year but that was nothing to do with the remap, just a naff VW designed plastic / metal leaking joint issue which I'm told is common to many VW engines. Insured (with remap declared) with LV for little or not much more than the std car. I might have to switch next year as like all insurers they have a habit of increasing their premiums on a depreciating value car which is a particular bug bare of mine. That said, 280's are not that common & seem to hold their value better than others.

I have a DTUK Pedal Box on my Passat. Previously fitted to my Octavia and bought from a golf owner. I'd be surprised if a karoq unit didn't fit a superb.

I’m with tvs remap. Tcu stage2+ and ecu stage 2 they call it. Minor mods like intake, that’s at 360 and 530nm. Very happy with both

Thanks. I’ve also been looking at TVS only problem is I’m not getting very good correspondence from the local TVS installer in Brisbane Australia. He’s trying to up sell me intercooler downpipe etc which I’m not interested in.

Not mine but there is a pedal box going in the classifieds right now at a hefty discount from new

Thanks for that.

It's tempting. But after some expensive recent purchases I really do need to tighten my belt. Next project is 57m2 of extra insulation in my loft + a raised chipboard floor over the top of it for storage of all the existing stuff I have up there now. As such all unnecessary spending is on hold for now.

One could mount a strong argument that a pedal box is a necessary expense 🤣
