Water Pump

Featured Replies

Looking at having the water pump replaced on my Kodiaq, 1.4 petrol, timing belt has already been replaced a few weeks ago

On Autodata it mentions locking the timing while doing it, why would you need to time up a water pump, it just spins ?

Thanks

@BRUN Has the water pump failed / is leaking?

no just doing it as good practice really, have always replaced water pumps on cars when i have had the belts done, this being on the other side of the engine made it a separate job

Good practice with some engines.   No harm done though, it is just money after all.

Certainly not something yet that is an issue with Euro 6 1.4 TSI',

but time will tell your preventative maintenance might prove to be correct.  You can not know how engine components might be after 6 - 7 years till we get to 7 years.

You don't, unless the water pump is driven by the cam belt/chain, when locking the timing will be essential.
