K&N filter on the 1.4 MPI MK1

Featured Replies

I was wondering if I can actually get a few more horses by installing a K&N open filter, since I heard that the main problem with the 1.4 is that it has a pretty ristirictive airflow in the normal airbox.

So I was wondering if a cold air intake would add a bit more oomf to the already very pedestrian car?

No. I'd argue that it was a pointless modification on these given the panel filter that's OEM is pretty free flowing.

Happy to be proven wrong, but I don't think I am.

Nope, not a jot, it already has a thermostatic intake because it needs warm air in the winter.

They are nice and torquey at low revs though aren't they 😁

And quite bulletproof, aren't they?

Yes indeed, apart from head gasket issues occasionally. Bottom ends are as tough as old boots.
