Warning : Motorpoint VRS's

Featured Replies

Just to let everyone know, i have just picked up my new RS from Motorpoint...... and had a little problem with the Climate control.

I took it into the local dealers and they refused to look at it under warranty as it wasnt on the skoda UK database.

They said when the car arrives at the dealer, they have to register it for warranty. It would appear Motorpoint didnt know, so havent done so! As a precaution i would double check yours are all registered for their warranties!

Anything to get out of a bit of paperwork!

Also whilst i was there they turned off my daylight driving lamps - and took £21 off me.

Anyone want anymore info PM me.

Chris

I've a very similar problem with Motorpoint over mine.

The heater blower has failed & requires replacement.

Motorpoint agreed (verbally unfortunately) to get it sorted with the local Skoda dealer & provide a loan car. After several days of hearing nothing I contacted the garage myself who told me they were still waiting for a PO from Motorpoint. Contacted them to find out they'd than changed their minds and said I'd have to wait for the warrenty registration. Got the V5 from the DVLA so hopefully all sorted soon.

As at least two of us have had this problem I'd definately check your registration.

The local dealer mumbled something about needing something from the original Skoda dealer so registration may not be straight forward.

I've been meaning to get intouch with Skoda UK myself about this.

When I brought my Clio 172 import a few years ago I had to mail the V5 off to Renault UK for the warranty to become live. Renault UK also honoured the 3rd year (dealer) part of the warranty once it had been registered!!

I assumed it would be the same for the VRS - maybe not the 3rd year warranty though!

Are these UK dealer supplied cars or imports?

All UK dealer supplied cars will have a 3 year warranty which is 2 years from SUK and the third provided by the dealer. If these are imports you'll only have 2 years from SUK.

Edit - You got in just before me Des

They actually sounded suprised when i told motorpoint about the warranty, like they had never had the problem before. Anyhow, you have been warned!

Motorpoint now of my list of potential suppliers, SOrry but not worth the hastle.

Spoke to Skoda UK customer services about this just now. They said in order to register the car for warranty in the UK system you have to take all the documentation (she wouldnt specify exactly what) for the car into the local dealer who will register it on the system and they may charge an admin fee for this.

At the risk of a mega flaming for this, I can understand Skoda UK's point of view, as in they make no money from the sale of the car, but you want them to put any faults right.

I can imagine the odd dealer getting a bit "testy" to as Warranty work can be a beeeehatch to get money back on.

My Triumph is a grey import, it came from the states (go figure, built in hinckley, sent to states, bought from parrallel importer) but I know and accept that because I bought the bike from outside the triumph UK chain that my warranty is with the dealer and as such any niggles or issues I have to get it to Newcastle under Lyme.

Right........ on with the nomex. :D :D :D

This sort of thing does put me off buying online. Maybe im just old fashion in that I like to see what im buying and talk to a salesman.

When I took my Octy in for warranty work the first thing the dealer said was "did you buy the car online". He also said they were not carrying out any warranty work on cars purchased online:eek:

I know there are good deals to be had online but it sounds like there is a bit of gambling involved and as said above might cause some grief.

I am sure Skoda UK would be interested in knowing that their dealerships are refusing to honour the warranty.

It doesnt matter where you bought it, if it is covered by a Skoda UK warranty, it is your right to take it to whichever Skoda dealer you wish to.

If you buy a cheap kettle from Asda Newquay on holiday and it breaks a few weeks later, Asda Preston don't send you back to Cornwall!!

Bought our car online (Broadspeed) but it was supplied by a Skoda UK dealer.

So, as far as I am concerned I bought the car from a dealer :D

Agree totally, it's a skoda UK warrenty and skoda UK make the money on the purchase of the car, so the dealers must honor the warrenty. They do get paid to do the work, and I would be calling skoda uk customer services if any dealer says otherwise.

We need to make a distinction here between

A. cars bought online, but sourced through Skoda UK,

B. cars bought outside the Skoda UK Franchise.

If it's point A, the dealer should honour the Warranty, if it's point B why should they? The Motorpoint vRS's are sourced via Malta iirc (or some of those here are).

Don't get me wrong, I am all up for a good deal, as I got with my speed triple, just trying to look at it from a Dealers perspective.

If nobody bought from a UK dealer and all Skoda UK Franchises closed (which I know is never going to happen) where would everyone go with Warranty problems?

What I don't get is why some dealers are so greedy.

Seriously asking one would they get near the whatcar price, they claim they buy the car for more than that so I show them the add on the next page for a skoda dealer a little bit 'up north' who will match the target price.

The dealer then claims they must be imports even though the add clearly states UK cars.

But on the other foot, my Dealer (Alex Lawrie) gave me an oustanding PX price on the furby and (without me asking) knocked the cost of Xenons and 18's off the price of the car and discounted an autoglym lifeshine treatment.

we are going off topic here, but some dealers will always be better than others. Supporting the better dealers can have benefits from my own experiences.

 A confusing mix of different entities.

Spoke to a legal mate (not a european trade law specialist) briefly - anyone agree if this is the case?

Agree with you mate but its all unnecessary aggro you dont need especially when your cars broken.

I would think its nothing to do with the fact its an import. Its to do with it hasnt been registered on the warranty system.

If its not registered on the system then the dealer cant claim the cost back from Skoda.

This is exactly the case. They had just failed to send off the paperwork. They are being very good about it though and sorting it!

I wouldnt let this put anyone off importing a car or via Motorpoint! i saved over £4000 on my vRS, and got a few extras.

Dealers will register the car for you and take an admin fee of around £50 to do it for you! However motorpoint are doing the work as soon as i recieve my V5. - they just want copies of my V5 and the first stamp in the service book.

Job Done!

I've serviced many motorpoint cars and done warranty jobs on them.

Its just the usual forum trait of someone getting the wrong end of the stick and everyone jumping on the 'Dealer ripping people off' bandwagon.

A dealer will do anything on your car under warranty, as long as Skoda will pay for it.

I cant see a down side of having a imported car.

If you have a good importer who you can fall back on, there shouldnt be an issue!

As a motor dealer we exist only by making an honest profit...........so customers like yourselves can come to nice premises, drink our coffee, test drive our cars, have a friendly salesman attend to you and answer any questions and advise you in your choice of car. We stock our showrooms and compounds with hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of cars which we have to pay for and incur interest monthly if they don't sell quickly.

While I can understand why you all want a cheap car - I would also, but we as dealers all work from exactly the same fixed profit margin except for a small extra bonus for reaching our designated targets. So some dealers will, if they have to, blow away a car if they are close to target hence you get a better deal. As you've seen - the likes of .............(can't mention names) but the ones who give the biggest discounts too often don't stay around for the long term as they can't operate making minimal profits for ever!

Texasjohn's mention that his dad came to us for a drive then bought elsewhere - is ok no problem, that happens, at least we had the opportunity to sell but as we were on target didn't feel we should sell a car for no profit - why should we? I'm sure there are plenty of tradesmen or people in other businesses reading this who wouldn't do their business for virtually no profit - be honest!

As for warranty - yes we will honour any warranty work wherever you buy, but I'm afraid if it comes to courtesy cars/emergency loan cars and going that extra mile - our customers will always come first in the queue if it comes to an urgent job to get them back on the road. That is totally at my discretion - not Skoda!(before anyone decides to complain)

Seems reasonable to me, you would expect the dealership to 'put you first' had you bought a car from them and went back afterwards for servicing etc.

Lummox, the dealer ripping people off bandwagon is just such an easy one to jump onto when you view things purely from the customer's POV...

Guilty as charged!!! (maybe not in this thread, but certainly in some others!)

Forget everything i have said about Motorpoint sorting warrantys for you! Turns out they arent going to help and i'm on my own.

Spoke to the local dealer and they said they will sort me out, i just need to take in my service book with first stamp from Frank borda (malta) and my V5 document they they can sort it out.

Honestly i'm not happy with the service from motorpoint one little bit now.

They said they are a car supermarket not a dealer...... thank god all supermarkets arent like them!

If you have bought a motor from them i would check with your local dealer you are ok!

I really don't see an issue. I've brought my car from Motorpoint saving ££££'s of the UK dealer prices. I fully expected to have to sort the warranty out myself and expected nothing from Motorpoint regarding UK warranty etc.

Motorpoint are brilliant at what they do at sourcing their cars at massive discounts - I really don't think it their job to register your car with Skoda UK. When you buy the car they make it clear it's an import - so I'd expect a few questions from the 1st Dealer you take the car to. I've owned a Renault import before and had to go through exactly the same procedure with the 1st warranty claim and register the car myself with Renault UK - so did many, other owners I know!

Texasjohn is correct. If you have a problem talk to Skoda UK. My car shows the dealers name on the number plate and on the tax disc so I would just point that out. I also have a certificate confirming Skoda warranty. Good luck:thumbup:
