Dogbone/Lower Torque Mount Polybush Fitted

Featured Replies

Managed to fit the Powerflex PFF85-620R bush to my car over the weekend, here's my findings:

- Increased cabin vibration while idling, which tbh is only slightly noticed, no extra vibration while driving. Will update after 500 miles Update: after 1000 miles I've basically forgotten about that extra vibration, still there but I got used to it

- No more wheel hop when wheel spinning

- Drastically reduced jerking/jolting when lifting off in 1st gear in traffic. A stiffer bush (Yellow/Purple?) will probably remove this entirely but I'm happy

Here's some tips to fit it:

- I soaked the area around the bolts in penetrating fluid twice, 2 days prior to fitting this and they came out without any effort, maybe too easy...

- Avoid using a hacksaw unless you have a vice, even then, I'd still perfer to drill a hole on both side and use a pair of cutters. Cutters alone are probably quicker than hacksawing

- When fitting the whole mount back in. a mallet comes in very handy as the bush stands proud on both sides and the mount needs to be hit back in to line up with the hole in the subframe

- I didn't use a vice or press to fit the new bush in just my hands and body weight but it did take some force. A flathead screwdriver came in handy

I did buy new bolts but the old ones were still in fairly good nick with minimal rust

New bolts were then tightened to the following torque specs:

- Subframe: 40nm + 1/4 turn or 90 degrees

- Transmission bolts: 30nm + 1/4 turn or 90 degrees

Hopefully I put enough keywords in this so that anyone can find it easily in the future

Fitted these to my MK2 a few years ago and they only lasted for 2 years tops, yes handling was improved but as you said idle did cause a little vibration, I also noticed that if you were in a high gear and put your foot down on some ocasions you would get a little vibration a well but soon as revs picked up no problem. When I went to change bushes after 2 years a mate told me to fit Seat Cupra bushes which are the same size but solid, drawbacks of these harder to fit but handling was better and lasted for 5 years and would still be ok but car was written off in 2019 by uninsured driver, we now have a mMK3 estate but petrol

Looks like they changed the design a bit since I bought mine.

Mine doesn't have the purple ring in the centre

I've always thought this a daft mod on a street car, it's designed for race cars with taller final drive ratios to help make first gear usable for slow corners.

Nice guide though.

Yeah it's not exactly a massive transformation. I don't rag the car often enough to see the benefit of the anti wheel hop but I do get traffic every morning and the massive reduction in the joltig when lifting off in first is a nice change

On another note. Your project thread is what made me go ahead and do it... Just not in a pit made for trucks haha
