Fabia mk2 5j

Featured Replies

Hi,

quick one just parked up my fabia and where the mileage displays it just popped up with saying battery never seen this before today any ideas it just just a recommendation to get it replaced because it’s cold? It was only change a couple of months ago lol

Try ignoring the silly thing, my guess is lots of short trips has led to low voltage when cold.

Bad news just before Xmas I'm afraid the battery isn't quite up to the mark, if you can get hold of an hydrometer and can get each cap of each cell on the battery you can test each cell acid for strength, if you have a bad cell the acid will be discoloured and float in tester will be different to others tested you could  however take it to a decent garage and ask for a drop test on the battery which involves sort of creating a dead short with a device on the battery to put it under extreme pressure, usually this shows up that perhaps one or more cells are starting to  fail and battery might not  survive the winter. PS a voltage tester is no good for doing this, like most garages they  get it out and slap it  on the battery and say it's faulty just to get you to buy a new one from them be aware

If it was only changes a few months ago it will be under warranty, but more likely as Sep says short journeys. Just charge up and see how it goes. Our resident battery whisperer will be along soon.

Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything.

Could it be the remote keyfob battery needs changing?

Check your Owner's Manual and see if the remote needs synchronising after changing the battery as it does on the Mk3 where there is a procedure to follow to do this almost left leg in left leg out, have the door handle pulled and held, putting the key in the right way round, turning the key the right way, have the alarm go of, stand on one leg and point north, put your left leg in, left leg out  . . . refer to Owner's Manual for exact details.

Perhaps with a 2011 car it's a bit easier to change a remote battery successfully.

Of course just because a car (12v) battery is only a few months old doesn't mean it can't be depleted as it's just a store, like a bank account some people can empty a battery a lot quicker than others. 🙂

Didn't want to disappoint my fans. 😆
