ride comfort - going from 18" 235-45 to 17" or 16". Has anyone done it?

@P33AKYWelcome to the forum.

I did not see anything in the posts to show you were new here.

  • When I bought my 17" rims (off a Tiguan) they had 215/65/17 tyres instead of the 215/55/17s for the Superb. When I test fitted them out of curiosity they barely fitted in the arches even with the stee

  • You could go for 16" alloys from the lower spec model. The amount of passive aggression on this site is shocking, it invades every thread irrespective of what the thread is about.

  • That's a pretty nasty post seems to be your style lately. Have you ever done private hire or taxi work?

It's right under the avatar, where it says "New Here"

Not if you are on a phone it is not.  Often posters are not aware of that and that people might not see what their car is or where they are.

Sorry for being rude would have been a better answer...

thanks

 thanks, as for the road noise I sound proofed my car myself and now it's really good. It might be worth spending a day or too doing it and a few hundred euros to get the effect, was really worth it. but yes on 18 inches without sound insulation on coarse irish roads the car was unbearably loud

is it possible that you L&K has active suspension? Which would much better than what standard Superbs have? I agree on the much worse look

You wouldn't mind sharing how you went about sound proofing? Any good guides you can point me towards? Complete novice.

we have an entire thread on this here - search for "noise insulation" in the superb thread. Let me know if you have specific questions after reading through it. It's worth doing it if you are not happy with the noise after changing the tyres. It's not massively difficult if you are ok with a bit DIY, using a wrench etc and have some time. and it can be done in stages e.g. one of the easiest stages and one bringing most difference is soundproofing the bottom of your boot.
