Fabia door display fault

Featured Replies

I really could do with some help.

have a 2008 Fabia estate 1.9 TDI.  It’s my second mk2 Fabia.  Had it for a year and a half.

Today my wife was using car and when she got in to drive home the dash display was showing drivers door open.  She opened and closed etc but was still showing on dash.  Came home and car wouldn’t lock on remote.

I suspect lock fault so spayed lock with wd40, checked fuses and then went to disconnect battery to try reset when the door open symbol went off but immediately set alarm off and came back on.

locked car with key and as we are both key workers and share car rang RAC.

great guy came out he tested bonnet micro switch and sure enough with bonnet open, display goes of when switch unplugged.  We decided to take door cover off and switch of drivers door lock micro switch only to realise that the door switch is hidden inside door lock mechanism and has to be unsoldered!!!!

can the wires be cut to the switch (red/blue) or has anyone had similar issue? With door micro switch.

Maybe the microswitch is mechanically stuck? Have you tried hitting the door hard near the lock to see if it will unstick?

I tried whacking it door panel side but no joy.  The micro switch is in such a rubbish position, door panel off, door lock out etc.

Could be worth testing the effect of disconnecting the window motor module to see if that makes the fault disappear.  I think the microswitch output wire goes there, as well as to the vehicle voltage control module, so if it was getting shorted to earth by a fault at the window motor module, it would appear the same as door being permanently open.

That’s interesting is there a window motor module for each front windows or 1 for all electric windows.  When we took of door panel of we had to disconnect all wiring which I’m sure would have included the window motor module?

the only fault shown on the computer was to do with passenger side window?

One module per window.

Sounds like you've already proved that idea wrong, sadly.

Worth considering though.

thank you.  Will take it to local garage to quote for a new switch

Do you mean the door card, when you say door panel? The motor module doesn't need disconnecting to take that off, I don't think?

Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything.

Might be a waste of very little time time and very little materials but if you have the door panel off already put the straw on the can of WD40 and give the microswitch, as much as you can, a bloody good spray of WD-40 (GT85 would be better but work with what you've got).  Might do sweet FA but so little to lose to try.  Might be best done with car battery disconnected, if so you might as well also with the battery disconnected put the ignition on and press hard and hold the brake pedal down for a few seconds to drain those nasty computers, don't forget to switch off and remove key from ignition after.  Again if it does FA to help directly to this actual issue it's only took seconds and next to no effort.

As key workers I'd suggest three cans of GT85 (tenner at Wilco for three), a can in car(s) and home, use the WD-40 to help preserve garden tools. - https://gt85.co.uk/

My daughter had exactly the same fault on her FII from 2009, except that it was the passenger door as during corona  lockdown 1 she was out testing and used her car - passenger seat - for her breaks.

I removed the lock mechanism and then swapped two microswitches inside the lock, see thread:

Thank you for replies.  I’ve not changed the lock as yet as I’m not convinced that’s the problem or ruled it out either,  the open door symbol know goes off however the alarm goes off if you set remote locking or at random time’s when locking with key - all a bit frustrating

IIRC (and I don't always) someone else just removed the fuse for the alarm and then removed the unit but this might have been on a Mk1 car, unit was engine side of scuttle and the chap only had third party insurance.

Hi,

I do have the same problem with my pasenger door.

The door close/open status glitches randomly.

I will also test to release the window module and see if it still glithces..

I beleive it will and i wonder if it might be the J519 voltage module that need to be replaced.

Does anyone know whats needed to replace J519 with another used one?

I guess that some sort of coding is needed. I have both VCDS HEX V2 and Delphis E 150 diagnose module, but have never coded any module before.

If i fail coding the new one, can i always replace old J519 module or do i need to recode the old one to be accepted by car?

/Andreas
