H7 bulb retainer clips.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, happy new year.

I am looking to replace my main beam h7 bulbs with 100w versions.

They will be powered via ceramic connectors through a relay and heavier duty wiring.

Are replacement bulb retainers available that allow the use of standard h7 bulb connectors.

I have already fitted aftermarket fog lights using a similar setup.

Don't buy 100w bulbs if you can't see with the bright 55w bulbs then you really need to think about giving up driving these bulbs are illegal to use on the road, ok for off road etc, they wil cause many people to flah you as you will blind them and quite a possibility that you will melt the headlamp fittings and could cause a fire be warned

Hi.

I can see fine using the dipped projector lamps. It is on country roads etc where the main beam seems inadequate.

I understand the warning about possible damage to the fittings,

Would higher power legal bulbs like nightbreakers be any good?.

He is talking about fitting 100 watt main beam bulbs, if you do not dip your headlights when you should then you would dazzle oncoming motorists with 55 watt bulbs and be flashed, if the headlights are dipped then there will be no difference for them even with the combined 100/65 watt bulbs, I speak from experience.

As for suggesting someone gives up driving because they cannot see (well enough) try driving a MK2 Octavia with halogen projector headlights and see if you tell yourself to stop driving or say to yourself "there must be something wrong here, I cant see Jack ****!"

I am regularly blinded by vehicles with LED Matrix headlights which are probably correctly adjusted, it has got so bad that I am now very reluctant to drive at night, also I have to dip the rear view mirror every journey as soon as a newer vehicle pulls up behind, in the past it was very rare and only if they had not dipped their headlights or they were badly adjusted, the difference came as a big shock because the MK2 Octavia I had (with the crap headlights!) for a few years before the Yeti had an auto dipping rear view mirror, I noticed it occasionally when first driving the Yeti but it has got far more common since where more people have bought new vehicles.

I see now that DarrenG has the K-rap projector headlights like I did (mine were rubbish on dipped beam as well, worse in fact), my solution albeit another one to set off the legality Police was to fit an HID conversion kit, the visibility with that was superb but you do need to adjust the height very carefully and if you dont have a self levelling system then aim them a little lower than you would ideally to avoid dazzling oncoming motorists when on undulating roads (if only the new car manufacturers would do the same!), the visibility is still far better than with the Halogen bulbs.

Cite needed since they are auxiliary headlights.

Generally main beam is 60W so the increase to 100W is not such a big deal, however the additional heat buildup may be an issue in such flimsy plastic headlight shells, maybe an upgrade to 75W will be sufficient given that the OP lives in Brum and drives a glacially slow 1.2 Putt-Putt.

Brum is renowned for it's slow traffic,

Miles may be a put put but its my put put 😁.

I have found these bulbs in the demon tweaks catalogue, would they be a viable solution?. ( main beam only)

On a separate tangent I have previously fitted oil pressure, water temperature and voltage gauges as I don't trust the warning lights as in my mind by the time they come on it is too late.

@DarrenG. Just nosy but are those extra light you fitted there for using as Fog lights, or are they there as Spot lights and for use other than when there is fog?

Hi.

They are fog lights operated by the front fog setting on the main lighting switch.

They are fitted with 55w yellow bulbs.
