Dashcam on the iV

Featured Replies

Hello all

I've been wondering this for some time but is it safe to leave my dashcam in the cigarette lighter port? I did forget to unplug it the other day and had no issues, but just wondering if the system is any different for the hybrid version (I always have it charging overnight but of course that's the battery pack not the 12 v battery)?

I was going to say that the 12v is likely only charged when the 400v system is active. Confirmed with the link above. Thanks @Patent

I would suggest having it connected should be the same as any other car and you should either switch it off or have some sort of battery backup system.

Ah damn that's a bit disappointing especially since you'd expect it to be fine especially when you are charging the 400v system

Hard wire it to the fuse box. It’s not hard.

Would that then run off the main battery?

You could take it off a switched live so it wouldn't be a concern?

Yeah,, sorry, off a switched live.

Here is a the step-by-step guide I used. Position of fuses may not be the same but these are the fundamentals.

Just realised that my question above is silly as I had already said it wouldn't run on the main battery.

I'll get my coat.

I kinda want to see the result of someone plumbing a camera into the 400V supply under the bonnet though!
