Standard cruise control on an ACC equipped Superb

Recommended Posts

Following on from a discussion in a different thread, is it possible to code standard cruise control in to a 2017 pre facelift Superb therefore having three options, ACC, CC and speed limiter?

After 2 years I still can't get used to my ACC and yearn for the older style CC like in my old mk2 Octavia vRS.

Thanks in advance.

I'm the opposite and much prefer ACC and would not want to go back to CC!

I was without ACC for a while in 2021 that turned out to be a broken bracket that holds the unit in the middle of the grill.  I missed not being able to set the ACC and just steer the car.

@Penpusher

no one wants disable ACC, it switches OFF by self in bad weather conditions as result there is none CC

this coding(in theory) adds CC as third option for two default ACC; Limiter

What is it you don’t like about ACC just out of interest?

The only thing that I don’t like is when you pull out to overtake it takes a while to pick up speed.

In the driver mode you can customise “normal” to have the ACC as Sport, but I always forget to try it out whenever I go on the motorway.

So if your reason for not liking it is that give that a try, unless someone else on here has theirs set to Sport and can confirm or deny whether that resolves the sluggishness

Sport mode ACC does accelerate more aggressively when you pull out, but it also brakes late and hard when you come up behind someone. I prefer normal mode, despite its sluggish acceleration, because it backs off the throttle early and doesn't usually need to brake; you can accelerate faster with the pedal if necessary.

Yes, the car can be a bit dim witted in ACC when overtaking, normally its because the car is either slowing down or  holding place on radar and has to 'sort out' whats up ahead using radar before accelerating back up to your cruise speed.

To speed things up, you can either knock the shifter back into sport or just take over, use you feet to override the cruise. Step off and the car will revert to ACC, Simples 😁

I may be preaching to the converted here, but the car (on Acc) will start to accelerate a bit when you put on the indicator to overtake.

I like this feature - tis the small things that make the driving experience more enjoyable.

I love the ACC - very useful and handy to have over the conventional cruise control.

The only thing I hated about it initially was the undertaking prevention, where it would brake when there is car braking/slowing in the adjacent lane.  Was annoying that the car would brake to match it's speed.

I promptly disabled this using VCDS.

I don't dislike ACC, I travelled 2000 plus miles to the south of France and back last year and it was in the main much better than conventional CC.

I have however struggled to get used to ACC when commuting on a day to day basis for many of the reasons already mentioned here.

I would ideally like the ability to select ACC when I want and select CC at other times hence asking is it possible to code standard cruise control in to a 2017 pre FL Superb to toggle between ACC, CC and the speed limiter?

You can override it with a tap of the go pedal for that pass. It will then go back up to speed or to the car in front.

Yup, been well aware of that since day 1.

It's just annoying that it gets alarmed and hits the brakes, and by the time I tap the accelerator to override, the cars behind r swearing at me for braking for no bl00dy reason!!!

The coding makes the driving less "erratic" and safer.

I did not have this coding option in 2017 MKIII (MiB 2).

+1

My Superb MY17 also doesn't have the ACC long coding for Cruise Control mode.

I also really like the ACC and use it extensively, even if I'm going a mile or two to the local shop, but every once in a while I think the standard cruise would be useful. My wife has standard cruise on her Octavia and doesn't like the ACC on my Superb, it can take a while to learn how to drive the car to make the most of the ACC.

+1 for 2016 Mk3 😞

where length of Long Coding is 11 Bytes

while 2023 Mk3.FL length of Long Coding is 24 Bytes

there must be also some intermediate version,
after ~2017. and before FL came new [Mode] button on bottom side of Cruise Control stick

Thanks all, so looks unlikely on my 2017 model but hopeful for @MartiniB 2023 model 🤞

Have you noticed any disadvantages in any way with this new setting?

Can you swap between modes like you do with ACC and Limiter while you are moving etc.

Not very often but sometimes I think it would be nice to have standard cruise control, I do use the ACC a lot but sometimes when it is not available you then have to control the accelerator yourself which on a long journey can be tiresome, I can swap to 'limiter' mode but you still have to keep your foot on the accelerator.

Earlier this week I covered a little over 400 miles in one day with the front sensor not working due to the snow so no ACC - does the standard cruise setting still work under these conditions?

Keep us up to date once fully tested, I may then try to find someone who could code this for me as long as it works without a problem.

I have had three 'ACC not available' faults in the last three weeks. Root cause is ''Forward alert sensor impaired''

Turn off the car and it resets. One time it reset on its own after 10 minutes

Grill clean, no snow, dirt etc. In with the dealer in a couple of weeks for its annual, but any feed back /ideas welcome

I got ACC and other systems unavailable last week, grill completly clean, however there was a bit of a snow fall. It surprised me, as my Ioniq had it's grill completly covered in snow before systems relying on radar got disabled.

Seems to me like a safty feature, not to drive on ACC in snow/heavy rain :)
