vRS front mud guards - drilling really required?

Featured Replies

Thanks to a great tipoff on this forum, I picked up the original (or exceptional fakes!) Skoda mudflaps on eBay for about half retail price. Just opened them and spotted my worst nightmare - use of drill required. For the front ones anyway.

Anybody fitted without a drill? A life hack for the wimps of this world who can't handle a power tool :)

I can't say I'm comfortable drilling a new car is all. Real shame they couldn't think about making the holes at the factory, I mean to me it's mind boggling you need one drilled hole the rest are pre-drilled!

Thanks in advance!

I just put on those last week (original ones) and I didn't do the drilling part. On the high way done speeds up to about 220 kph and they didn't flew off so Im pretty confident that they will hold on 😁

I've also bought the mud flaps for my new Mk4 VRS, but haven't fitted them yet. However, I certainly won't be doing any drilling. My previous car was a Mk3 VRS for which the mud flap instructions also specified drilling. Instead of drilling I used some thin number plate sticky foam strips and these worked perfectly - my son has this car now and after 9 years the mud flaps are still firmly stuck.

When you fit if you fancy taking pictures and posting that would be fantastic. Rears too I was left scratching my head completely with the little metal clips and screw. Assume to fix to the fabric liner but no clue to be honest so didn’t use them 🤦🏻‍♂️

Have them on for the third winter already and no need for drilling in the front. Drive mostly on the highway and no issues.

At the back I would recommend to install those clips since otherwise (in my opinion) flaps are too lose. You just clip the clips to the liner and align them with one of the holes on the flap and then you put the screw through and tighten it.

I also put them on mine without drilling coming up to 2 years ago and they are still there and fine.

Don’t know what amazes me more. The lack of drilling or the fact you guys have had your cars for more than 2 years. I’d literally seen a whole single vrs on the road until I got mine. Mind you seen 2 others since always the way! Cheers guys will do the fronts when I get time this weekend 👍

I may get off my white Irish arse and put the flaps on my superb, I only have them a year.... The 7mm drill is in the car, it's definitely worse I'm getting 😏

Would you like to post a link to eBay please.

They don't look any cheaper than ones from the dealer. 🤔

Same price for both as a dealer charges for one isn’t it? My bad I never checked but was told that was about right haha. Oops.

Mine fit without any drilling on fronts  , there is a bung that fits in flap hole from underneath ,  goes  in to a hole that lines up  in plastic cowl
