How (un)common a sight is a Skoda Scala?!

Since I took delivery of mine I've only spotted two where I'm driving - one about three years old and one was a taxi.  Where I live/drive is a bit sparse on Skoda dealerships but you do see some Skodas just not Scalas although rarity is fine by me.

Just wondered how many other Scalas do you all see about?

They are the least or 2nd least of the Skoda models being bought / first registered in the UK and not as noticeable as the Enyaq's.

The same globally.

Maybe many of them are sitting in Hire Car pounds and not on the roads / parked road side as much.

They are out there someplace, many just not that many in the south.

Each time i spot it is a Scala and not an Octavia i think that is a sensible looking car.

"A few"; people who buy "real cars" rather than SUVs seem more likely to buy Octavias or Superbs around here.

I have just seen 3 within 2 miles in Forfar on my way to a EV charger. 1 parked, 1 driving and another in the Tesco car park.  All near new.  But then the Scala and Kamiq,s are low advance payment from Motability and Skoda Specialist cars Dundee will supply quite a few.

They are a very rare breed. I see the odd one but they are not that common, unfortunately. The Scala is a good car according to some of the motoring press and if I changed from the Roomster a Scala would be in my sights.

This is the number of Scala, Kamiq, Karoq & Fabia sold in Europe.

Karoq comes in FWD, AWD and more engine choices and 3 gearbox choices.

Fabia are not SUV / Crossovers and limited engine choice and gearbox until the new Mk4 came out.

There will be much more promotion going on as Skoda are pushed by VW group to help get average Co2 emissions down for the VW fleet in the UK.  They will encourage Motability and Fleets with great discounts.    Those jumped up salespeople might even have to drive them as their daily transport.  Get more first registered and punted as Ex Lower management.

Is the Scala neglected and not promoted as much rather like the Roomster?

When I had decided that the Scala was the right choice and started phoning dealerships for some it was like they were mentally double checking the Scala was even a Skoda! and then they all refused to offer anything in the way of a discount which for me then put the Scala up against better cars.  Frankly I wouldn't currently be the owner of one were it not for being able to source one via a broker at a significant discount .. in fact given the infotainment glitches, heating / climate control issues, start stop rarely activating and some other usability issues I'm starting to regret being the owner of one!

I’ve been consciously looking out for them since reading this post last week and my total to date is…one!
So yes they do appear to be thin on the ground. (Around here at least)

I looked into Skoda Ayr today to show my partner a Kamiq and try for size and maybe a Scala as looking to order a car in May with Motability.

So plenty Kamiq outside  & Fabia or Karoq,s & she spotted the one Green Scala and a there were Enyaq's including a vRS Coupe parked right at the door.

The salespeople were busy so i sat in a Kamiq Monte Carlo, wondered about and looked at the few cars in the showroom, no Scala though.

Through to the SEAT showroom where the salesperson was busy so sat in an Arona, looked at a couple more, sat in an Ibiza and had a wonder outside to see if there was anymore

Scala around to check out colors.  Nothing about i spotted.

Contact with staff was zero which suited me.

I will get a Scala on loan from Skoda Dundee in the next few weeks and a Kamiq just for a bit of a comparison and see next quarter if the Advance Payment on the Scala is the same or less than the Kamiq's is and if so likely go for a Scala.

  • 1 month later...

Scala drivers are a lonely breed!  I got mine at Christmas 2019.  It was a dealer pre-reg which had 15 miles on the clock when I picked it up, and 13 miles of that had been my test drive.  I'd been driving a SEAT Toledo (in other words a re-badged Rapid) for about 3 years so it all felt pretty familiar.  I had a Roomster before that, I go for the rare breeds!

It's a 1 litre 115hp which is more economical than the 1.2 in the Toledo was, but lacks the low range torque of the older engine - you get nowt for nowt!  I like it a lot, it's big enough for my needs most of the time, though I've not even tried to get our Greyhound on board.  We have a CRV for that.

I'm not aware of another one which lives close, I might see one or two a month.  Many times when I do spot one on the road it turns out to be a Kamiq!  One interesting thought is that as I was getting acclimatised I felt it was a bit gutless, but it turns out that the throttle spring is stronger than on the previous couple of vehicles and I just needed to prod it harder.  Whether it's intentional to encourage more economical driving I can't say.  It's hilly around home but even on shopping trips (about 7 miles each way) I can get 50-55 mpg.  On longer runs using dual carriageways / Motorways I normally manage 65 mpg ish, sometimes a bit more (cruise set at about 65 mph).

It suits me, I don't feel the need to be in a 'stylish' SUV to be happy.

I still miss the Roomster, mind.

When i ordered my Scala november 21 took delivery march 22 sure i only spotted like 2 in that time.

When out and about etc maybe spot 1 or 2 a week. Definitely way more kamiq & karoq's about, but when i do spot Scala on the road i always like to think us fellow Scala drivers acknowledge each other 🤣🤣

I have seen two this week 😁

One in Maidstone (71 plate I think) and one today in Sittingbourne (69 plate). First ones I've seen this year. Chatted  to the driver of the one today for a few minutes and he was very happy with it (1 litre DSG). Turns out it was one of the first to be sold in the UK, currently with 10k miles on it with no problems.  Probably won't see another one until next year!

I see about 1 a day around my part of the country, Leighton Buzzard.  Which seems quite a lot compared to the rest of you, but is still very rare given the amount of cars passed on a daily basis.  Most seem to be the base S model, an odd SE every so often.  I'm the same as a lot of you in that a little bit of me lights up every time I see one, sending out a telepathic 'hey, nice choice'

Had mine since March 2020, registered 2 days before lock down 1!  Got a cracking deal, as was more normal pre-pandemic.  Currently has 27,000 miles on the clock, still drives great, still love it and going to enjoy it for many more years.  I'm not sure many of the other drivers would even recognise mine as a Scala now though.
