Engine bay colour

Featured Replies

Help please because I am massively confused.

I collected my 2023 Superb Estate a week ago form a Skoda dealer, car is supposed to be brand new. However on a closer inspection I have noticed that the engine bay is painted black whereas the car is graphite grey. What is going on? I thought that the engine bay is always the same colour as the car body but in my case bonnet hinges are partially body colour/black.

Am I the only lucky one or are there more people with a similar experience?

that is certainly strange.

the engine bay should b the same as the body colour as that is how it gets painted by the dancing robots!!

yes, even the hinges should b body coloured!!!

not a great shot of mine, but u can make out the engine bits, apart from the plastic bits, r not black.....

last few years VAGs aren't painted in invisible places 😞

same disappointment with 2023 L&K Moon White

I've watched lots of factory build videos, and in all of them almost every single place gets painted.

Even in the engine bay, the robot lifts up the bonnet, and the engine bay gets a lick of paint.

U can see it in this video for the facelift Superb, from about 2:18 mark

Same with other Skoda models.

Same with other brands/manufacturers

Thank you all for your input.

I did some research and it seems that this may be a base coat/primer.

It is extremly dissapointing as this is their top of the range model/version. This makes you wonder where else have they cut corners?

EDIT.

I am an idiot :). Must be poor light/LED from a mobile phone messing with my eyes. I checked again, and the car's engine bay is painted in the same colour as the body. However I think it misses clear coat. As a result it is not smooth, and if you look at it at the wrong angle it does look like black :)

But after another inspection it seems fine, however not as shiny as the rest of the car, which I can live with.

This is what it look to me like when using torch from the mobile phone, you can see wheel arch, engine mount siting on a black paint.

Even with a proper shine from decent camera flash light messes with your senses:

But o a closer inspection, and getting my boss aka wife, we get to the conclusion that I need to visit specsavers :)

lost stuff if compare my previous MY16 Style vs MY23 L&K

- engine cover, as result TSI is louder than TDI

- Magnetic Boot Light Lamp

- illumination in armrest compartment

- manual tune of FM stations, even what exact frequency plays isn't visible anywhere

- adding Radio stations Logos

This has been a problem for years in cars, years ago cars were built then priced. These days they are built to a price.

Seems scrimping on things which were once the norm is the way forward 😞

I can understand some items being dropped as they're never used nowadays, such as cassette and CD players.  I've got the magnetic boot light lamp, which I took out and tried when I bought the car but haven't used since because if you need a light, your hand goes into your pocket and you use your torch on your phone.

I would disagree on this one. I loved magnetic boot light. Try changing the wheel when holding your mobile in one hand. Whereas with magnetic light you can stick it to the car body and have two free hands to do anything. Same with quick check under the hood, etc. This one I do miss.

I would miss ours but if I take it out of its holder, it disintegrates. I would replace it but not at 40 bloody quid.

Our 2016 280 engine bay is sort of painted, but there’s practically no lacquer.

Errr... I can admit, there's an inflation context, but when I spec exactly the same MK3 as I currently have on the French Skoda configurator, I see that standard equipments have become options and standard price has furiously increased in the mean time...

I would rather say there are lost killing actions to increase profits...
