Front wipers/central electrics control unit

Featured Replies

Hi guys, my front wipers suddenly have stopped working. I've checked all the fuses and bonnet catch. I've then got a 2nd hand motor which still didn't work.

I'm wondering could it be the central electrics control unit and if so do these need coded or anything or are they just plug and play.

Also if it is rhis would it show kn kn a diagnostic test?

Have you relubricated the spindles for the wiper linkage?

What year is this Fabia?

I think VCDS output tests for module 09 Central Electronics can command wiper action. If nothing happens you can probably conclude that the relay is toast.

Doubt you'll see a fault code with relay contact failure.

There's a how-to for replacing the relay in this section. Requires soldering/desoldering skills.

Whereabouts are you?

Yeah and even tried just the motor

Within the stock?

Yes stalk, wiring or connections.

As put if you cab actuate the wiper with the scan tool it would put you a step forward with working it out.

Except me you've got the right people here but I'll 'Report' the thread to get it moved to the Mk2 section.

If you want you could add more info to your name plate, as mine only as an example.

Going to have another look at this tomorrow after work, anyone know the best place to look for wire diagrams for it?

Is it a face-lift or pre-facelift mk2? Electrics changed quite a bit around March 2010 which I guess was when face-lift came out. Control unit with wiper relay changed a lot too.

If you message me with VIN I can do some research for you.

Erwin has all wiring diagrams available to download for a small fee (1 hour access <£10).

Minor faff to register and familiarise yourself with navigating it though.

Did you find the relay change how-to? If not I'll link you up next time I'm near the big Internet, shouldn't be long.

Here you go:

Your control unit will be just a little different, with the rows of connectors closer together I think. relay will also be slightly different type, I'll try to find a thread where someone described this, thought it was in this one, but doesn't seem to be.  Same physical position relative to the other relays I think.

Ah, it's mentioned in one of the posts:

It's come to my attention that if your control unit has a part number ending in F, as found in some or all early mk2 Fabias, a different relay will be fitted, unlike the one in my photos.

According to a couple of folk who have fixed their mk2s, expect to find an Omron G8NW-2U 12V DC fitted.

@Breezy_Pete brilliant thanks very much for this, off to check a few bits and pieces out now.

so doubled checked all fuses and all ok, i'd already jumped the gun and bought a 2nd hand motor which i now think could be a dud. When checking  the connection the power pin was pulsing and was wondering was  this normal?

  • 3 weeks later...

We had a problem just like yours.

I first went down to  the wiper motor and connected it to 12V direct to find it is working. I tested the in and output o the stork.

The problem was the relay on the BCM I first ordered the relay but then decided I wanted to a second hand BCM.

When you get the BCM just make sure you get the correct one as different spec versions are not directly interchangeable.

HI, Thanks everyone for the advice.

In the end i had to leave it in as was running out of time to get it sorted and it was the control unit.

I had same problem and traced it down to faulty relay. In the end I just replaced BCM with identical one for Fabia 2 so that I could just swap it in while repairing original. The original and a replacement relay is still on my desk a year or two later! Removing BCM requires some uncomfortable work in footwell.  It was useful sourcing another (used) BCM just to practice releasing the numerous connectors. All are keyed and/or colour coded so you can’t go wrong replacing.

Hi. I have similar problem - front wipers dostn't work. Skoda fabia 2008 1.4. Fuse 44 is fine - it has constant 12v all the time. VCDS is showing that wiper switch works fine. I hear BCM module relay click when switch max wiper gear, no cliks on lower gears. I can move wiper motor mechanism manually, so it is not stuck. When wiper motor was disconnected, and wiper lever was set to max speed, there wasn't 12v on motor plug. But there was 5v on wiper motor plug. I didn't check wiper motor itself, do you have pinout. Looking at BCM i didn't find the same cables like on wiper motor plug, where they goes, can anybody share electric schema?    Thanks in advance.

The wiper relay failed on our 2008 Fabia 2. Fixed it by fin ding a used control module (board that sits under dash in footwell) 6Q1937049F. Swapped that it and wipers restored.

Had to remove front seat to get in position where I could release all the connectors from the control module.

Tested wiper relay on the bench and one of the switches had failed and didn't switch when coil energised.

Thanks @Stratfordade.

Now I also think it's relay.

Following attached diagram, I checked continuity on green/yellow wire from BCM to wiper motor - wire is fine.

After apply 12v to this wire motor was spinning, so motor is also fine.

Next I removed BCM , without removing front seat ;), wasn't so difficult.

Indeed P/N is 6Q1937049F.

Last thing I want to check - if there is constant 12v on ro/gr wire in BCM XP4 plug. Probably it goes to fuse 44.

That’s a handy diagram - is it from factory service manual? I also checked motor before removing control module and it was fine so suspected relay.

Well done on getting board out. You must be more flexible than me! It was too awkward without removing seat but that’s only a few bolts and a connector.

Relay replacement possible as an alternative to BCM replacement, see here:

Wiper relay replacement - Skoda Fabia Guides - BRISKODA

The relay part number for the suffix-F version in mk2 Fabia is Omron G8NW-2U 12V

If you cut open the relay, you tend to find one set of contacts that has badly burnt. I did one yesterday as it happens, will try to photograph relay damage.

Do 6Q1937049C and 6Q1937049F use the same relays inside?  6Q1937049C is much cheaper than  6Q1937049F and probably it would be a good part donor.

@Breezy_Pete, did you open relay wihout desoldering it from board?
