New ECU

Featured Replies

OK, If im on the lookout for a "spare" ECU what do I need to look for?

What VAG cars are fitted with the same model?

They I might look for a written off one.

Hypothetically speaking of course.

Jono

Each engine in the Octavia range has its own version of the ECU - which means that they are not interchangeable. That said, the difference is probably restricted to the code on the chip, which might mean there is scope to use one from another Octavia - if you can get the chip reprogrammed to the original code for your car.

Now I wonder why you want a spare ECU Jono ;)

I wasnt thinking of getting the code changed to the ORIGINAL code!

Good heavens no!

Do I have to spell it out?

;)

Jono

Aaaah! So why not go the really cheap route and just buy a spare chip to meddle with as you wish? The spec is:

AMD AM29F800BB-70SI 8MB CMOS 5.0 volt-only boot sector flash memory chip.

Now I wonder why you want a spare ECU Jono ;)

Don't you know?

ECU's are the new coilpacks :D

If a new ECU could be picked up cheap, it could give peace of mind with regard to warranty issues. Or am I missing something?

Anyway, its all hypothetical at the mo.

Jono

Depends on your actual ECU part number to finding another one second hand. The Octavia ECU's have all been used previously in other models. A3, Leon and Golf have all donated ECU varieties to the Octavia.

Immobiliser 3 is used however on your car so would mean coding keys every time you want to swap ECU's.

Call me slow on this one if you like but why do you really want to swap ECU's anyway? Is there a fault or just trying to hide a chip?

Hiding a chip/reflashing.

If you can keep your original ECU totally stock, then swap it if warranty issues arise.

Jono

A lot of messing about with the key coding side of things tho just to hide a chip. Surely it is easier to find a mod friendly dealer for servicing.

We have just started to offer immobiliser defeat codes but this is aimed at the 1.8t conversion brigade and these cars are normally way out of warranty. The codes will also contain Revo logo/branding in the diagnostic i.d so will be useless to someone trying to hide anything for warranty purposes.

Did you like the way I sneaked in a plug there? Sorry just cant help myself.

Yes , we did notice ;) .................but thereagain Revo need all the help they can get on this site :D No offence intended .

Persistence is futile... :D

RevoRichard, it is very useful to know that there is more to an ECU change than just swapping the box. Presumably all reputable performance remaps, chip upgrades and reflashes retain the key coding details - so is this info on the ECU main chip or somewhere else in the ECU box?

And now, thinking back on Duxford, I'm visualising Denis on the next meet saying "Want a fabia mug ? No ? Well, how about an ECU for 1.8T Tavia, only a

Intriguing question, Denis, especially as I believe that Jabbasport replace the chip as part of their remap. I guess that in this case they must flash a modified copy of the original chip onto the new one, in order to preserve the other ECU information.

Swift edit there, Xavier, before I had chance to pounce! ;) ;) :D

For the benefit of those who missed Duxford, they were H coilpacks, not ECUs!

Any tuner can reflash or rechip the ECU performance data without touching the immobiliser information. As you say this is stored in a different location.

Cloning of immobilisers is possible but we only do this for R&D purposes.

Mellowyellow and Fen. Good job I have a sense of humour and am not easily offended ;)

There seems to be a Revo fanclub just arrived on Briskoda but the posts look a little suspicious to say the least

Sorry, Richard, just bad timing that you posted after a raft of other 'Revo' ;) posts. At least you got the joke!

I suppose that is the concequence of having numerous dealers, you just cannot control thier marketing strategies

Good job you are all so understanding on Briskoda

Maybe I should post this on the relevant thread?

Would it be a problem if the client could prove no illegality was involved?

We have actually just launched this as a product. Mainly aimed at the engine conversions for older cars (ie mk1 Golfs etc having 1.8t's transplanted).

We have launched this as a head office only job for a start and we do require a good deal of information of the customer and the intended recipient vehicle.

Oh no there I go again! advertising our products, I just can't help myself ;)

What the hell, everyone else is doing it.

Is there a discount for Briskoda members wanting their vRS' carpets cleaned, Rich?
