67 Octavia 1.4 petrol Service schedule - Timing Belt/DSG

have the 1.4 mk3 Octavia estate. 2018 - 5 years old and 28k miles on clock.
 

1. does the 1.4 petrol engine have a timing belt or chain

2. if belt when does it need changing? Is it mileage or years?

3. When does the DSG need a service?

2. This opens a can of worms that can get emotional replies on here - Skoda UK say 5 years but other importers say longer intervals and VAG even say 'lifetime'.

3. With a 1.4 I suspect you have a DQ200, which does not have any service intervals.

2. I couldn’t find much on Skodas site and as you suggest there’s split opinions on googling it!! I tend to take the pro-active approach with servicing my cars so will probably get it done now.

 

Be prepared for various quotes on replacing 1.4 TSI cam belts.

Prices are all over the place and a 1.2 or 1.4 TSI / 1.5TSI can be cheaper than a 1.0TSI  and much less than a 1.5TSI ACT. 

 Many on a Service desk seem bot to know any difference so be sure you do not pay more than needed.

 

If they say Skoda Fixed Price Servicing & Maintenance price, well fine if cheap enough, not if some of the recent prices being quoted, and wrongly quoted.

The 1.4tsi is has been widely fitted to any number of models across the VW group, except Porsche and Bugatti of course, and the cam belt is not recognised as being an issue if not replaced exactly per recommended schedules which vary considerably across the world's markets.

I didn't get the nudge from my  (Australian) dealer to replace mine until the seven year service and when I declined he indicated I wasn't the first to do so and I did not get the hard sell or any warnings of imminent doom and destruction.

We have decided to keep the 1.4tsi, as there is no more attractive or affordable new option on the market, and will probably replace the belt next service.

I Just have to decide whether I go with the dealer or a specialist independent.

 

If you feel more comfortable changing the belt now then that is fine, but if it did not happen until a later service then don't lose any sleep over it, especially with the low mileage it has on the clock.

Thanks . The only time I go to the stealers is when the cars under warranty or for a recall! My independent family run garage are invested in the quality of their work and have always been reasonable on price.
