Fitting a cd player

Featured Replies

I have a 2016 Superb SE business TDI diesel estate.

It does not have a cd player, which I really miss, as still a bit old school!

Is it possible to get one fitted does anyone know please.

Thanks in advance.

What is it you are trying to play from the CD?

There is the CD player in the glovebox that will play certain media types but if you mean a CD changer then there is no option and you would be better off putting all your media onto a SD card/USB drive.

Not necessarily. Many of the mib units don't have a cd slot.

I have a CD player in my Columbus unit (glove box) . You have to be really careful of potholes. As a result, it never gets used, even though it has had a CD queued up in it for the past seven years!

The mib1 and 2 units have CD slots.

The only ones that won’t are if you have a mib3 or a non glovebox control module unit on an extremely basic spec model.

@ApertureSNope. My mib2 I had retrofitted to my Octavia didn't. The mib2 in my Passat doesn't. The mib2 in MrsG's seat doesn't.

You need a Columbus for a cd slot on later systems.

You got any part numbers for any of this cause I don’t think I’m yet to come across a mib2 system without a cd slot whether it’s a Columbus or Amundsen system

No part numbers but just did Google image search for "Amundsen mib2 unit" and shows a load of units with only SD slots.

Thanks for all replies.

I have the enclosed in the glove box, but no cd slot.

Is there anyway I can get a cd player fitted?

I’m not necessarily after a cd changer, just something that would play single cds.

However, I had a Peugeot estate once that had a cd changer in the boot compartment, not sure if that’s an option or not.

To get an OEM cd player you need a retrofit which isn't cheap. Better would be to visit an auto audio place* and ask for a changer option. At least to get an idea of cost.

Yours is likely an mib2 system so the equivalent is a Columbus which will cost up to £1k with a new screen.

*There's a really good one in reading so maybe give them a call or look to see if they have a branch closer.

Thanks for that.

That gives me an idea on what to go for and will contact an audio place about an option for a changer.

Maybe worth a shot if they'll take it back opened and you don't like it.

Really do think it's worth the effort to get the CDs on SD card though. Convenience of having it all in one place is great.

Other option is a monthly music subscription. You don't necessarily need a data connection as you can download music to the device if needed.

Fair point, and like you say if I can send it back if it’s not suitable then worth a try.

I do miss the cds though, and my car is when I listen to most of my music and I know it’s old school but I’ve always done it and quite happy to do it, if I can.

sorry to say it, have you considered ripping your cd's onto a sd card?  very easy with old and newer pc's, laptops etc

and then you have all your cd's on the data card to browse and play.

I use exact audio copy / EAC https://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

You miss CD’s? I miss my Nakamichi TD1200 Cassette Deck!

It was a sad day when I found it was going to cost more to fix my Nakamichi than it cost new. Great deck.

Yep, but that’s the case with most  analogue gear, especially reel to reel decks. I paid more than the original cost price to recap our Mums 1971 TEAC AS200S amp a couple of years ago. And you have to take into account the value of the item now too. The TD1200ii is worth around £1,200. Cost me £400 IIRC. Works fine when the voltage it stable; you get a drop and it goes nuts. Ultimately, it was more trouble than it was worth tbh (the Pioneer and Sharp units I had were far more reliable and just as good in the limiting sound arena of a car!) but I’m keeping it for the sake of nostalgia.
