Can't establish 'Primary User'

Featured Replies

I have 1 2020 Octavia IV. I've downloaded and installed and registered the MYSkoda app. I'm recognised as a user on the infotainment screen having removed the previous owner as the primary user. I now need to set myself as the primary user  I need to verify myself as the primary user for the car. When I do this I just get the rotating green wheel for, even waiting 10 minutes so I seem to be stuck in an endless lop. I've tried reinstalling the app on my phone but no improvement. Any suggestions?

I had exactly this issue on my car. It needed to go back into the dealer for the issue to be fixed, and it took them the best part of 3 weeks to resolve. Apparently Skoda UK Technical wanted to use my car as a guinea pig to understand why so many "early" variants of the car were having this kind of issue.

In the end I think they came up with a process which involves completely re-coding the vehicle and setting it up again for the first time. Whether this process has been published for others dealers to follow I don't know.

However, apart from the climate SYNC bug everything on the car now works as it should. It's just a shame it took 12 visits to the dealer and over a year to sort out!

Thanks. I've been in touch with Skoda support who made suggestions such as a factory reset but no change. They're going to up the issue to technical support so we'll see if they know any better! Everything else is working on the car so I don't want to cause other issues and don't know if Skodaconnect is worth having.

I seem to recall if you can't make yourself the primary user of the vehicle other features are not available, such as the Shop on the infotainment screen. Plus from a security perspective you really want to get yourself registered as the primary user.

Skoda Technical shouldn't play dumb on this, as they do now have a documented procedure for fixing and hopefully completely resolving the issue. I wasn't complaining too much at being without my Octavia for 3 weeks as they gave me a really nice Superb to drive around in while it was away.

I'll see what they're tech folk say. I actually traded in our 10 year old Superb for the Octavia. Must admit that I'm not a huge fan of the infotainment system. I much preferred being able to stab a single button to turn on the air conditioning!

I found that I didn't need to remove the garage user from the system.  As soon as I set myself as Prime User, the garage account disappeared.  So it's not much help to the OP, but it could be the reason you're having problems is because you deleted the garage user first.

For interest, Skoda Support got back ( reasonably quickly I might add) and said that I would have to put the car into my local dealer who would sort it and they would contact them to tell them what had to be done. Nearest appointment at the local dealer is TWO MONTHS away!!!!! Staggering - Just as well it wasn't something urgent.

The delay is strange - when I picked my new one up a week ago, the dealer was complaining that his workshop was always empty as the cars didn't breakdown that often.  With my previous Skoda I've always found that the dealer was always keen to add as many extras to the job list as they could (like changing the torque converter fluid on my manual car, changing my AC pump when all it needed was a little oil in the freon mix, changing a £5 bush on the rear suspension with 1/2 hours labour for £200 - a DIY job).

Hello,

I'm having the same issue, car is booked in with Rochadale Skoda on 1/6. When I spoke to the people they didn't fill me with hope and kept saying the garage that sold it to me should have sorted it out... why should it matter? the cars under warranty and I'm not driving to Chesterfield every time!

I think it's unlikely this is the issue as I bought the car used approved from a main dealer and they wipe it all to make it almost / the same as a new setup.

I have the same problem, I can't become the main user, I got the used car 1 month ago it's from 2020. Does anyone have any advice?

My garage replaced the MIB unit ( the brain of the infotainment system) to no effect. Eventually they realised the problem was the coding in one or both of the keys. They keys were recoded at the garage and everything is working perfectly now and I'm able to establish as the primary user.

Mine went in to to the dealer with this issue, they tried to update the software and didn’t have any joy, had the car all day.

when I picked it back up the tech said he did everything including pulling the fuse from the SOS module for 10 minutes as that’s what holds the SIM card for the cars connectivity. They said they will have to get authorisation to replace the SOS module and contact me when I’m ready to come back. But before I left I thought I’d try doing the setup again myself and “hey presto” it worked. Car is setup and I can access the shop app. Went back in and told them to save them the paperwork.

on a side note, my car has just tried to update itself which makes me

unsure they actually updated it and just tried the SOS module restart.

There's a suggestion that the 1941 SW resolves this issue. Do you know if this is the update they did?

I really can’t remember, I should have made a note. However, the update notes for todays update said that one of the fixes is “user registration” as well as the standard bugs and stability fixes. I’d have to go out and check my current version

SW 1941 is the latest update, so they DID install a SW update on your car. Updating OTA is normal after the installation of 1941, it's been mentioned several times on the other topic ("Infotainment reboot").
Since you have the latest SW, it would also be a good idea to update the Maps - yours are more than 3 years old; latest version is 22.12, released 23.06.

How do you go about updating the maps, my version is still 21.7

I’m not that fussed about maps as I use Waze.

On a side note, the POP POP, SOS issue has become a lot more regular since the update 🤡 used to happen once every other day, now happens a 2-3 times per drive

I hate to quote myself, but more details on the other topic - below...

Read several posts from the link above...
Most of us are not using the Skoda navigation (I don't even have the navigation paid for), it's for the car's management/settings in the background - parameters that you don't adjust while driving.

Ive updated it and it now reads 21.something... how long does it take, as the website says "The vehicle uses the data on the USB disc while driving to update the required map regions. For proper updating, we recommend to leave the USB Flash Disc plugged into the vehicle connector each time you drive."

how long would you suggest to leave it in?

I use the same USB-drive that I'm plugging into the car for Music, so it's there all the time.
However, if your old version was 19.7 and now it's 21.something, it means the update was performed. But I'm puzzled why you didn't get 22.12 as most of us. What was the name of the map-archive you downloaded? Or the files after archive-extraction - map version should be inferred in the filename.

L.E. have a look at the image - when I try to download the maps it shows "Valid since" week 25.2023 - which actually means map version 22.12. Can you check what's yours?

I put my vin into the portal and downloaded the file it suggested;

I’ll try leaving the usb in longer and see what happens

Just gone out to check and it’s 22.12 now

Hello,

I have the same issue, I can't set my user as primary, I'm getting an error "The application could not start". What should I do? The only solution is to go to the dealer and ask them to update the software?

Thank you!

Hi pikciu

Did you try pulling the SOS module fuse out for 10 minutes?

If you have, It seems like taking to Skoda was the only thing that fixed it for me, get them to update it and see if the sos module is faulty.
