A Skoda Warranty.  VW Group owned Warranty Company.   Maybe not the 'Skoda All In.'

They do sell them though, and knock back claims saying faults were known.  Yes known by Skoda / VW.

?

How much does a warranty show on here with the cars reg number & miles?

http://insurewithskoda.co.uk/extended-warranty

This comes out at £683, all component cover with £100 excess

So, been on the phone to my local dealer. Guy I talked to was sound, buy he said they can only see limited information on the system. Told me it was last serviced at a skoda dealer in Plymouth.

So been on the phone to them, and they said very similar. Altho they did the last 2 services on the vehicle. But only filters and oil changed. So, from the little knowledge I've gained, it's sounding like, at a minimum, the plugs nor the diff oil have been changed.

Kinda seems strange to me, but I dont know how the whole PCP thing works.

Nor me, however my work colleague has a PCP with Audi who have for the last 6 months or so, being trying to get him to upgrade to a newer model even though he still has a year left to run on his existing plan.

I think the massive surge in 2nd hand prices now means that the dealers can get more profit from early return of the old car and swapping for a new one.

I get your point @Gammyleg and it makes sense. Its just strange to me that only 4/5 months into a PCP contract(?) Its up for sale. But more strange, i would atleast expect to see it on VAG forecourt rather than an arnold Clark, Fiat/jeep forecourt

If you are able to get sight of any paper copies of the servicing ( there should be some ) it may well give the last driver's name and phone number as mine did. You could possibly contact them directly and ask. It may be that they lost their job hence the early return.

As above, dealers seem happy to take cars back before time as the 2nd hand prices are so good. Less hassle than going to court.

Yeah fair points.

More than likely all above board I'm sure. Just dunno if I'm being over cautious or talking myself out of it almost, as its such an expensive purchase (for me atleast) and realistically, I would be happier buying from someone other than Arnold Clark, but its taken me a while to find the exact car. Just happens to be with them 🤷‍♂️

I bought a 2016 230 manual a couple of years ago. Managed to get the service history after a call with a Skoda dealer, which did not indicate any servicing on the diff, so got it done by a VAG specialist for 90 quid (as part of a wider service). They changed the oil and gave everything a good clean, but said there wasn't much in the way of dirt in there. It was 5 years old/~35k miles at the time. I wouldn't worry too much about it not being done, if the car's not way over schedule, just get it sorted when it's yours. Same goes for plugs, they last ages these days.

I'd be more concerned about a DSG 'box not being looked after properly, given the potential bills it could give you.

Hey @Fuzzarr

I hear what you're saying, and I agree some things I'm sure, can be left far longer than the schedule suggests.

But being the typical tight Yorkshireman, for the price I'd be paying I'd expect these things done. I don't wonna buy it, then a few thousand miles down the road, have to be forking out on 500 quids worth of work. Not to mention they've screwed me down on the part ex price, so trying to scramble that back.

I did think about trying my luck on the gearbox oil too. And I know the general feeling in here is to look at having it serviced every 40k, but the skoda schedule does say 80k, so I doubt I'd have had any luck there.

If a DQ381 gearbox the Guidelines / Schedule / Recommendations from Skoda are a 80,000 mile Oil change even if others might recommend sooner and the filter changed.

As to the VAQ, then that is @3 years / 30,000 miles for servicing and Skoda / VW Dealership staff forget to tell people, and with Mk4 Octavia if you do get told they are saying @ 20,000 miles.

You are not going way over schedule with a DQ381 @ 50,000-60,000 miles. You are with a VAQ diff though.

Agreed. As the car has just gone over 40k miles, I don't think its out of the question that I ask for it to be done now. As for the DQ381, they'd be daft to agree to that to be honest, so I'll take that on the chin

^^^ requesting that the diff is serviced, I was referring to, sorry.

Just ask for £100  knocked off their sale price & in writing the warranty with the car covers the VAQ diff.

They hate that, they will likely offer the Service Plan for 2 years at no cost, with 2 MOTs.   That Service MOT plan is crap from Arnold Clark.

(How it works is that goes down as an expense so off the profit they pay tax on, but costs them nothing because they try screwing you at the Services which are basically an Oil & filter change, a look see and advice Brakes serviced, replaced etc, a lovely vid showing the car they sold you needs work done,  and if they can fail you on the MOT.)

If they were to have the VAQ serviced i would not even trust them on that.

£100 off the car even if it costs you £130 to have a proper mechanic do it, not their trained Technicians.

So, im now the happy owner of a mk3 254 challenge 😁

First impressions are, its a cracking car. Love the heated seats!! Only used to the seat pad being heated in my old car. Also, wasn't aware the rear seats were heated too! Kids will love that!

Comfort mode still feels firmish but manageable. Sports is harsh, but feels fantastic throwing it around a B road.

Think the infotainment might take some getting used to! I aint very technically minded!

Small niggles... n/s wing mirror doesn't seem to go back after dropping when in reverse, unless I put the control knob back to centre?

Aint been able to connect via android connect thingy, tho only had a brief play.

And, still absolutely hate the gloss black spoiler!

Other than that, it puts a huge smile on my face after driving family busses for the last 10 or so years!

Agreed, thanks to all who contributed and helped me out!

Also, I have to give a mention to Arnold Clark. I know I can't speak for them all, and I did have my reservations. But to be fair to them at A.C in Oldbury, I couldn't fault them.

I raised servicing issues I thought the car hadn't received, notably no diff service, brake fluid change and air con service.

They did all that, brand new discs and pads all round, 4 new tires and referbed 2 wheels. Gave it a full service and stuck 12 months MOT on it, even tho I think it was within their 6 month policy.

One more thing while I'm here... if I do a factory reset on the infotainment system, I'm not likely to lose anything important am I?

  • 4 weeks later...

That looks really nice. Well done cracking on with it. I nearly bought a green one but couldn't quite find one in a spec I was happy with.

Nice.  Love that colour.  Wish I could have found a green wagon when I was looking.

On the android auto front, you'll need a half decent cable and your phone to be updated top the latest software.  You may also need it to be enabled on the car by a dealer.  It should be clear on the screen if that is the case.

  • Author

Thanks @Fuzzarr there are a few things missing i wish it had, mainly blindspot indicators and reversing camera, but more luxuries than needs.

@MarkyG82cheers bud. Obviously not to everyone's taste, but I think the colour looks amazing, especially cleaned up on a sunny day. I would have preferred an estate if I'm honest, but purely cos I think they look marginally nicer than the hatch, but its by no means a complaint.

As for the android auto, got it all working no issues, but don't use it.

I prefer Google maps straight from the phone, just cos it has real time speed and think it picks up more speed cameras. Something I need now more than ever 😕

Fairly certain g maps has speed on android auto. Waze definitely does and also has good camera (and other) data. Worth having a play as it's owned by Google and uses the same map data. Nice to have it all on the big screen too. I rarely use my car without plugging in now.

I do prefer it on the bigger screen, but unless there's an update I don't have yet, Gmaps does have the road speed limit, but mine definitely doesn't show my speed.

As for waze, I have read a couple things on it, but I didnt seem too impressed.

Not had as much time in the car as I'd like yet, but I probably will give it a try 👍
