L&K Suspension Tweaks

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’m thinking of making some changes to the suspension on my 2017 Superb 2.0 TDI 190 L&K hatchback for a couple of reasons.

1. I’d like it to be a tiny bit lower (I’m talking 10-15mm, nowhere near as low at the Eibach or H&R lowering springs would take it).

2. I’d like the handling to be a bit tighter.

and I wanted to run my idea past this group.

From what I read the the Sportline is a little lower than the L&K so I was thinking about getting the standard Sportline hatchback springs and putting them on some Bilstein B6 dampers.

Will this address both of my points?

If so, anyone got the part numbers for the Sportline 2.0 TDI 190 springs?

if not, anyone got any other suggestions?

Cheers

Mine is lowered 20mm on Eibach Pro-kit springs.

The springs firm up the car a bit, and reduces some of the bouncing and wallowing.

I've also got a stiffer rear swaybar - helps keep the car flatter when taking corners.

....and finally the DCC mod (which loads the VW Arteon suspension algorithm) that makes the ride perfect.  The compression and rebounds r spot on, no more bouncing or bottoming out and u get 15 DCC settings instead of the usual 3 DCC settings.

APR offer a similar thing - it's called Suspension Control Unit (SCU), but they charge 10x the amount I paid for the DCC mod.

Coilovers r too expensive, especially the DCC compatible ones, and it's not perfect.

Sorry JR RS, I should have added that I don’t have DCC 😞

The Eibach pro for mine lowers 25mm at the rear and 30-35mm at the front which is more than I want. Yours looks awesome by the way, but just a little lower than I want.

MartiniB, thanks for the links. The second one is where I read that the Sportline springs are lower (15mm is perfect for me). But I now see the pt numbers on the same thread which I missed before. However these pt numbers are for an estate, do you know if the Hatchback is the same?

all good.

The DCC setup is 10mm lower than standard suspension, hence why the Eibach only drops it 20mm.

good luck with ur setup.

@JimmyM

1. Sportline springs are same as standard, just Sport pack springs are lower
2. any of OEM springs will be too soft for Superb, that isn't only mine conclusion

perfect solution is Eibach Pro :)

to avoid lowering, chose models from some weightier car

on my previous TSI 2.0 220ps FWD installed

Eibach Pro F11-85-043-02-FA front (from weightier Audi Q2)
Eibach Pro F11-79-008-01-HA rear (from weightier Superb 4x4)

oustanding! Thank you

@MartiniB

recon I could just go with exactly the same as you did or is the weight on the 2.0 TDI too different?

diff on front won't exceed few mms

rear, in theory, must be same.
but in real life, i were expected 15mm higher than got,
what gave me zero complaints about driving conditions

the same(rear) model of spring on another FWD Hatch

245/40/19.

Original was 235/40/19.

The 245 tyres r cheaper, more readily available, more comfortable, and more accurate speedo readings.

Many here in Oz have made the switch to 245 tyres.

Love the look of this car with the Eibach drop on it.  I don't have the confidence to change my springs because I seem to remember you saying you needed to have the DCC recalibrated?

U don't need to have the DCC recalibrated.

It improves the ride if u do it, otherwise everything will continue to work, just won't b optimum.

I didn't get mine recalibrated until 6 months after I had the springs put in.

It takes 2 secs to actual recalibrated.

U just need OBDEleven, and 4x jack stands.

Thanks JR RS for the reply, I couldnt find the thread where you had mentioned it, I was going to get my local independent to fit the springs so I wonder if they could just reset them.   I actually have OBDEleven, so I guess I could do it whilst the car is up on the ramp?  Is there a methodology written anywhere, or a certain menu in OBDEleven?  Edit:  I found your thread on resetting using OBD11

Many thanks

Steve

All good and good luck.

Just b mindful that some haven't had much success with doing the DCC recalibration using OBDEleven.

It might take a few attempts before u get a "Done" message.

Make sure u make note of the live values before and after, to b sure it's done the recalibration.

UPDATE:

@JR RS had the 245 tyres fitted today. There were indeed cheaper and look better on the wheels than the 235.

@MartiniB got the springs but when I took them to get them fitted the garage advised me that my shocks are on the way out so I abandoned the job and have just ordered some Bilstein B6’s all around. I’ll get them all fitted together in a week or so.

thanks for the advice

Hi all,

I just took my car to garage to get the B6's fitted and they told me that they won't work as mine has electronic suspension control. I had no idea, what an idiot!!!! Newb question, how is Electronic Suspension Control different to DCC?

I've just been quoted £1300 for parts alone from Skoda for the correct shocks 😞. I guess the only way to get a firmer ride is to fork out for the shocks so I'm able to fit the stiffer springs........nightmare.

Also, @MartiniB if I go with the OEM Electronic Suspension Control shocks with those springs you recommended still fit?

Cheers

Someone may correct me but electronic suspension is DCC. Maybe the garage you went to has never fitted aftermarket shocks to a DCC setup?

Nope they are not the Damptronic because I'm an idiot and I didn't realise I had DCC at all 😞

Looks like I'll have to return and order the Damptronics. At least the springs will fit :)

Cheers

Just to close the loop on this I ended up selling the 190 and bought the 272 L&K which was basically the same except the engine. I now have the Damptronic shocks on her and am very happy with the results. Thanks for the help on this.
