Service

Featured Replies

Hi, I've not got a manual yet but service is coming up and wondered. Is this car a standard sump plug or do I need to invest in these oil pump things?

Also, timing belt at 160000?

Many thanks

James

Ooops.

Sorry. 2020 2.0 TDI on a se technology with manual gearbox 👍👍👍

Timing belt is an ongoing discussion.  For UK I think the current suggested period is 60k* (miles) and 5 years whichever is sooner.  Most other locations around the world suggest things like 100k or 120k with no timeframe.  Make of that what you will.

* This may be higher I cant remember off the top.

Thanks. I only bought it a month ago.

It's on 133000

The indy sales where I bought it from told me the cam belt needs doing at 140000

I've been through the full service history as it's an ex VW fleet car so main dealer services only and there is no mention of a timing belt.

Oil and filter changes plus other stuff but no timing belt.

I assumed it would have been done at 80000 so next due at 160000.

But maybe it is due it's first at 140000.

That's a long time.........???

Try and get a print out or pdf copy of the electronic service record.

I have not heard of a VW fleet car with 130+k miles, would normally replace them lot lower mileage, so I am bit suspicious.

Unfortunately if can't get any evidence of when things were done, often have to assume haven't been, or was while ago so possible overdue.

So a full service history is only a full history of what has been done. Not necessarily what should have been done. Any brake fluid changes? That's usually the thing that highlights if it's been looked after to manufacturers recommendations. Although just seen it's a 2020 build so the first fluid change is only just needed.

If there is no record of the timing belt being done then I would question it with the dealer (once you have more solid evidence on mileage period) and look to get it done.

Hey guys, thanks for your answers.

The log book says the previous owner was VW fleet services. The service record has a man's name and lease vehicle.

Brake fluid had been done with a few oil changes. I will try and photo and post on here.

It's great a start stop issue dealt with. A sub axle. Also a turbo issue and the subframe removing and replacing. All done by Skoda main dealers.

I also have all the repair orders from Skoda with parts list. Too many to photo but would be good as I'm not the most academic person to understand them 😞

I am pretty sure there is no timing belt or cam belt mentioned though

OK.

Turbo, not supercharger there / just lost in their translation.

At least a service history.

Yeah, it's always funny how some things can be called different things....

With a comprehensive service history like that, I'd be inclined to keep it up with a dealer rather than DIY unless you have good reason not to.  Over here in Ireland, belt change intervals are 210,000km/130,000 miles or 5 years.  To me, it's due around now and not really worth the risk to go past 140,000 miles.

Even though the belt change interval seems to be conservative over here, Skoda dealers here do the bare minimum, especially on service packages so if they recommend 130,000 miles it's probably close to what's needed.

@CurrymunsterIn German /  with Mercedes then fine.

But there are typed on that service record just wrong.   Because you get Fabia MK2 vRS Twinchargers with a Supercharger & a Turbo.

No different to the Volvo AWD being called a transfer box/angle gear/bevel gear and even a centre diff.

I'm not going to sweat the small stuff. You are complete right though 😁

Going to be used as a taxi so it will be really high mileage once I've finished with it so dealer services won't really matter by then.

Looks like I best get it sorted 👍👍👍

In that case go get a cambelt with the knowledge you have it in the best possible state.

So about my other question in my first post

Do these engines have a sump plug to drain oil or do I need to invest in a pump? 😁

Most cars should have a sump plug. Depends on the frequency of the change and if a suck and swap interim between full change will suit your needs.

Excuse my ignorance, I usually work on older cars. I had been told that the new cars don't have a sump plug. I did think it weird.

I had not checked due to the under tray. Lol

You might need to remove the tray to gain access but don't see why there wouldn't be a plug.

Yeah, just me being silly and listening to Idiots too much. It does have a sump plug. It's listed on the service sheet for parts supplied.

I remembered some guy telling me that new cars don't have a plug and you have to suck the oil out. I was obviously very gullerble that day as my newest car is a 99 v70.

 Thanks

Ok a separate note. Any one know the timing tools required for my engine

2.0 TDI 110kw 150bhp

Engine number DSRA

👍😁👍

@Currymunster  Please take a step back and let someone with the gear and more than ideas or a manual do the job.

Are you trying to insult me?

I think what toot is getting at is you are questioning the sump plug so are you qualified for a timing belt job?

But then there are many who won't touch a modern car as "you need a laptop these days". I've done plenty spannerring on my last 3 cars. Current one being a hybrid. Saying that it has been some time since I did anything timing related and I wasn't solo.

@Currymunstersorry if i offended you but i only have your best interest in mind.

It is good to DIY and learn but sometimes maybe with someone else with you that has done it all before.
