Temperamental ENGINE stop/start button

Featured Replies

My Engine stop start button seems quite temperamental. It always works (so far) but thought I’d see if anyone has any ideas (I’ve read previous posts where it turned out NOT to be the stop start button).

Firstly I tried changing the battery and using the spare key. This didn’t seem to make much difference which made me think it wasn’t the key/battery.

BUT at times the range of my lock/unlock on the key is also a bit temperamental and I have to be very close to the car for that to work.

But would both keys have an issue?

Sometimes it start first time, some times it takes a few goes but I can always get the car to start either by using a firmer press, or by doing a circular motion around the Engine stop/start button.

I don’t want to spend unnecessary amounts at the garage so wondered if anyone might have any ideas.

Should I just try new batteries again and the spare key again to be sure?

And then perhaps get the Engine stop/start button replaced at my local garage? I think this is quite simple therefore cheap to do? (not by me though!)

It's been like it for a while. I've no problem if it stays this way but I'm worried it will be worse or one day it may fail to start at all. Or if someone else tries to drive it (with my permission) they may struggle to start it.

Thanks in advance

Can you confirm what actually happens when you press the button and it doesn't start. Does the starter operate but the car doesn't star, or does nothing happen.

Hi, sorry to clarify, nothing happens at all.

On my previous Superb the SS button just died.

It’s a common issue and one Skoda are well aware of. I had mine replaced under warranty.

Same here...   Button replaced when we bought ours.

Looks to be easy enough DIY though

So did I on my Karoq.

Sorry one more question. Mine is a 2018 plate. I'm guessing this is out of warrranty now?

Good guess ;) unless you have an extended warranty you've not mentioned.

Two other options for you:

1: Try pressing the centre of the button. I have the occasional failure but seems to be when I hit the edge. If I'm then careful to only hit the centre of the button it seems to start first time.

2: These switches are dirt cheap from 3rd party sources and look to be a very easy swap. Just google ' Kodiaq start/stop button'. Obviously depends where your dealer is but it may be actually cheaper to replace the button from Ebay than it'll cost in fuel traveling to/from the dealer!

Thanks all. Just to update, I had it replaced today under the dealer's warranty. What a difference. I hadn't realised quite how bad it had got but the past few days it was worse than ever and think it was on the verge of failing. Even the person who collected my car couldn't start it! So I'm glad I didn't delay it further especially as there's a shortage of this part currently (I wonder why!!).

need to replace my 2018 Karoq start/stop button: prices go from £15 to £70: anyone know the significance of the part nos: 3V0905217AWHS seems to be the top of the range one: cheaper ones drop the AWHS! anybody know what AWHS suffix signifies??
