Heated Front Screen

Featured Replies

I have a SEL but it hasn't got a heated front screen. I have a new SEL on order and would like to add a heated front screen. I understand that one needs to add the Winter package. This included heated front seats but my present SEL has these anyway. Can one add the screen only as don't want to pay twice for heated seats!

Unfortunately you couldn’t order just a heated front screen when I placed my order last November, you could only get it as part of a pack that included heated rear seats.

I already have heated front seats and heated washer jets so I was a bit annoyed I couldn’t just get a screen without adding on a whole other ‘winter pack’

That's my problem

I don't need or want the heated rear seats

My present SEL has heated front seats and not sure about the heated washer jets. I may be wrong but my November2022 SEL came with front heated seats as standard so don't want to duplicate the cost just for the heated front screen!

Call me a cynic but I think it’s a very shrewd (read cynical) marketing ploy by Škoda, I think most people would opt for a heated front screen if it was available alone for £200 say but they want an extra £600/700 (I can’t remember now) for the winter plus pack.

In the last 12 months no passenger has used the heated rear seats in my Karoq. Complete waste of money and resources.

Are you sure the current spec SeL includes heated front seats?

Skoda change the spec all the time.  My SeL has the torch in the boot, current ones don't.

They certainly do keep changing the spec. My present late 2022 SEL does have heated front seats. But no torch in the boot ( as we had in s previous Yeti. Now I wonder, as you imply, whether the standard SEL will come with heated front seats. My dealer says you often have to wait until the car is delivered and then have the opportunity of seeing what it comes with and then rejecting the car if necessary ( great after waiting several months)!  The dealer has offered me a reasonable deal on a new car only because the one I now have didn't come with promised options.

Would phoning Skoda get you the answer?

With experience of Skoda UK knowledge, I very much doubt if they would have a clue. When I queried with Skoda UK why my present car wouldn't change the headlights for driving abroad, they said it should; they didn't actually know, went out to their car in their car park and said how to change the lights on the car's menu system. The when I pointed out the car is an SEL they said, oh yes as it's not a sportline.....

Why cant you just order a heated screen from Skoda ? , they must sell them to replace chipped or shattered ones , or am i missing something

Had a similar dilemma when speccing my 2023 1.5 TSi SE-L.

Ended up going for winter pack+, primarily for the heated screen, at an additional cost of £425 (order placed November 2022 and car delivered March 2023).

The heated rear seats are a bonus and have been used on occasion.

Great to see the heated screen is now a film rather than filaments.

Given the choice however probably wouldn't have opted for the heated rear seats and would have simply added heated screen.

I note that headlamp washers are now standard on the SEL. That I don't have on my late 2022 model. All I need extra is the heated front screen (and heated front seats if they are no longer standard). Plus maybe the light package but I'm even wondering about that to be honest!

Škoda are an absolute PITA for changing specs  on models, definitely not “simply clever” 🙄

Simply b. annoying. So one can order a car with a certain spec. Can hold on for many many months before it arrives and then find it's not to the spec that one ordered! So I would think their terms and conditions of sale should only allow extras on the car at no cost and certainly NOT omissions from the contracted terms.

My car was a factory order and arrived as specified - I suspect the majority of cars arriving with the wrong spec were wrongly ordered (by the dealer).

Headlight washers just seem to waste washer fluid in my view - certainly no replacement for the wiper and washer system previously fitted to Volvos of old!!

I understand the LED headlights on the older Karoq were of the self-leveling variety and I was a little disappointed to find the ones in my car aren't, although on balance they are superior (in terms of light output) to the Xenons in a previous Yeti.

No removable torch in the boot seems a little mean too.

Heated front seats are standard on the SE-L

I'm not 100% sure of latest specs but the wording on options throught the whole VW group can be pretty confusing at times.  Are you sure you've read the pricing correctly?

My guess is that if heated front seats were std then the likelyhood is they're still standard, it's just that the heated screen will come as a pack. So when they mention heated seats as part of that pack,  you're not paying for an item twice, they mean rear seats.  If it was front seats in the pack and they were already std on the car then the pricelist usually quotes two prices for that pack or option - one for the car that doesn't already have part of the pack and another for ones that do.

Regarding packs - unfortunately that's the path Skoda have now taken. Seat done away with packs and options three years ago, Audi have been offering packs for years. BMW are another company who've gone down the pack route rather than offer individual options. At least Skoda still offer some options,  with most other manufacturers you have to pay many thousands more for the next trim level altogether. You might only want a sunroof but the car that offers this comes with leather and a more powerful engine with 4wd.

As for adding a heated screen aftermarket, anything is possible but I strongly suspect the cost will be prohibitive.

Yup, you may very well be correct about them mixing up front and rear seats- wouldn't be at all surprised! I'm sure an after market heated screen would be very pricey.

I did initially consider buying an SE Drive Karoq and adding Winter pack+, but recall this was more costly than adding the same option pack to an SE-L

Wiring, swiches, integration with the rest of the electrics.

Would be very surprised if every variant wasn’t wired to accommodate most add-ons, they simply don’t connect them if they’re not fitted. If a specific item is then ordered as an extra, it just has to be fitted, no need to get involved with messing with the wiring loom.

Prepare to be very surprised.

😂 well I must confess I am. I’ve just come out of a Freelander and I know from fellow owners that they’d found wiring in place for certain items. Assumed it’d be the same for Skoda.
