New Fabia auto

Featured Replies

Hello.

First post here just on a fact finding mission.

Been for a test drive today in a new Fabia SE Comfort 1.0TSI 110PS DSG.

Really impressed with that auto gearbox but would like a little insight into some other practical features as there are so many things you don't notice on a short test drive that you think about later.

First thing.  I didn't notice if the door mirrors have a fold-in button.  I seem to have read somewhere that it doesn't on this trim level.

I also noticed that it has no sat-nav but would rely on my Android Auto connection. As this is something I rarely use I am wondering if .... using AA maps through my phone connection, would that be using my phone data or does that somehow pick up through the car antenna?   Sorry but I really am 'vintage tech' I'm afraid.

Next.  With that display screen. If you have nothing selected as a display (no information) what is the default.  On my current Kia Picanto I have a nice big analogue style clock on there. Is there a feature to select something on those lines?

Anything else to be wary about or to have prior knowledge of?

Thanks in advance for any information to help me decide whether to go for this or not.

James.

I’ve a 2020 Karoq Sportline so not sure if the bits and pieces will be the same, but here goes.

I can fold the mirrors using the knob on the drivers door.

My ‘blank’ infotainment screen defaults to a clock - I have three faces I can choose from.

Not sure about your satnav query.

I use Apple Maps in my Kamiq. AFAIK it uses minimal amounts of data and is way better than the built in navigation.

Hi.

As you can see from the above image, the Comfort SE has heated and electically adjustable door mirrors but there's no fold button. They'd have to be folded manually on that trim level.

AA maps uses your own phone data although it's pretty minimal.

You can specify an optional extra on the car which allows for wireless connection of a phone to the headunit but to be honest that type of connection can be problematic at times so if you're not tech savvy and hardly use AA then it's much easier sticking with the wired connection which is standard.

The Comfort SE has an 6.5" screen infotainmentI system called Swing which I've never seen in operation.  What happens with  larger screen systems is you can set the screen saver as a large clockface. So if the unit is switched off whilst driving, the clock would be displayed. If the unit is on, you can set the screen saver to activate 10secs after pressing any button.  I'm guessing the Comfort SE's Swing unit will operate in the way but you'd have to check with someone else / dealer.

Thanks for that.

Very informative.  I hope someone can enlighten me about screensaver options.

From the current Fabia online owners manual:

Which suggests it is possible.

You can download maps first at home via wifi, and then use them offline so you use no data at all.

I also use this when I go abroad.

This also works when you don't have a mobile data connection.

Thanks. AG Falco

Interesting.

Can you point me to where I can find this online owner's manual, please?

Online manuals for all Skoda cars can be found on their website near the bottom of the 'Owners' section. Just chose whichever model / year / market is appropriate.

Thanks for this.

Very informative however I am now cooling off from this vehicle purely from the Insurance point of view.

After doing some further research it is looking as if the insurance could be way higher than I hoped.

I appreciate the comments you have all contributed.

If I have a change of mind I will be back with a whole legion of questions, no doubt!

James.

My colour edition Fabia doesn't have built in sat nav, but it's got Skoda Smartlink - I believe the Comfort edition has that too. That enables you to connect your mobile phone via USB-c connection and you can then use Google maps as your sat nav.

As regards the clock - if the Comfort edition is the same as my Colour edition you can choose between 3 versions of a clock display - 2 analogue style and one digital.

Had my Fabia SE Comfort 1.0TSI 110PS DSG now for 6 months this week.

Really very pleased with it on all sorts of levels.

The driving experience is wonderful and, don't know if it is down to it being badged as 'comfort', I truly found it to be extremely comfortable.

Before retiring I was a professional driver, often driving multiple cars each day, and this is the first one where I have sat in the seat, adjusted the distance and the steering wheel height, and never had to change it since.

The DSG gearbox is a dream. You can simply forget about it apart from the odd times you need a swift getaway then just click the gearshift to select 'S' mode.

There are other wee tiny elements that I love like the inner door pull handles and the boot hanging pull which just make me happy!

Small things of joy.

I do have a few niggles. Things that I really DON'T like but they are minor and probably down to my own taste.

Don't like the way I can set the computer fuel consumption to 'from last fill' but it always seems to revert back to 'from start', which only gives you consumption for each short trip.

Absolutely HATE the infotainment system and the way it will only put USB albums in alphabetical order.

Hate that so much that I am seriously sourcing a portable CD player to plug in.

Anyway.   All round great car.
