First aid kit

Featured Replies

Hi there. I recently got my new Karoq which I've been really happy with and I was just wondering if it should've came with a first aid kit and if so where it is located? Also, should it have a high viz vest too?

If you’re in the UK then most likely not as it’s not a requirement here unlike most of Europe/ROW.

Just to let you know I’d avoid buying the official Škoda FAK as it’s pretty much rubbish, not exactly what you’d call comprehensive 🤭

I have had a few new Audi's prior to the Karoq and they have all came with FAK's and high viz vests and thought it was maybe mandatory now in UK but I've been unable to find one in the Karoq - although it does have far more storage compartments than any Audi!

That must be part of the 'premium brand' marketing then, as VW and Skoda have never supplied first aid kits, warning triangles or hi-viz jackets in the UK in my experience. But at least we can have heated windscreens and umbrellas! With Brexit we're unlikely to join the EU safety requirements any time soon, so it's up to us to buy our own and transfer them from car to car with us.

OK thanks- should've kept that equipment from my last car.

Don't forget that many items in a kit from a previous car may well be out of date. One of my jobs as a First Aider in the chemical industry was checking boxes . The vast majority of the components were, luckily, never used, but the company did baulk at the vast quantity of replacements but couldn't really complain.

In Slovenia, the first aid kits expire after 5 years and their expiry date gets checked at MOT.

European countries had safety requirements long before Brexit was in the English language and we didn't copy them.

But what are these EU safety requirments you speak of?  There are no mandatory safety kit requirements throughout EU member states.  For example Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece etc are just like the UK in that carrying a hi viz jacket is not a legal requirement.

Ireland have exactly the same safety requirments as us  i.e. FA

And even when something is mandatory like a Gilet Jaune and warning triangle there is no obligation on the manufacturers or dealers to supply them with a new or second hand vehicle, its the responsibility of the individual, a concept many have difficulty in comprehending.

There is no requirement in France to carry a first aid kit in a vehicle.

I have 2 cars, one we use for Continental trips, the other we only use in the UK, although if necessary we could use it abroad. One car has everything we need on the continent, as most trips cover several counties. Our other car has yellow jackets and a triangle, not because they are required, but because I think it is sensible to have them. BTW, I do not carry breathalysers for France.
