Broadband supplier gone bust

Featured Replies

Have just had a letter to say my BB supplier has gone bust and if I want another supplier will take over............. but .................it's 2MB with a 5Gb limit per month and all for

Usually takes 7-10 days to set up. These MAC numbers really annoy me. Surely you don't need one if they've gone out of business?

Not sure how they fair for 'value for money' but Zen Interet are supposed to be about the best out there.

Talk Talk is even cheaper, has a 40gig limit and will go up to 8meg.

Problem is they will take till August to connect you

and our local exchange isn't unbundled yet so

Orange have just taken over Wanadoo. I've never had a problem with the service.

At the moment they have a special offer on - chose a contract mobile £30 a month or more and get the broadband free... You also get a box thing that lets you use the broadband as a 2nd phone line at dirt cheap rates. May be worth a look. :)

Bro in law is with Wanadoo on dial up and since the takeover by orange the dial up service and customer service have gone downhill really badly. Connection speed has also dropped by 25%.

IMHO steer clear of the big companies that advertise all of the time on TV and in the Press. These usually turn out to be the worst for customer service as they simply have a massive number of customers to attend to.

I use Pipex and have had a little bit of trouble just recently but they have been excellent generally over the 4-5 years I have been with them. Eclipse is also a popular choice at work.

Please don't get AOL :)

Well like I say, I havent had a problem.

Also worth noting that all I do is surf, if I do download anything its via iTUNES music store.... I've never found my 2MB connection to be slow either...

AOL is a non starter as far as I am concerned

have sent an email off to plusnet so will see if they comeback to me......and have another search in the morning

A recomendation for plusnet from me. Very quick service, just recommended a friend from work and he's also been impressed.

I like to call them sh!tnet, i suppose i am just giving them a bad rap, when plusnet is running its great, but if anything goes tits up be prepared to go through their ever so annoying support ticket setup and wait eons on CSS answering the phone, But saying that i'm still with them, they are either not that bad or i am just tooo lazy to do anything about it :D

How I absolutely HATE, HATE, HATE AOL!!!!!

Being into fixing PC's part time and setting up networks etc, AOL are the pits for being unco-operative when it comes to providing MAC's etc and causing PC problems in their own right. Plus when they were Compuserve I took them to court, and won :D

What MAC address are you looking for, should be easy enough to find out using net search. try winipcfg in start / run

Mac number is with the isp and as they have gone bust the new company trying to take over the customers won't release it.....just signed up as a new customer with plusnet so we will see what happens...........................if I dissapear off the face of the earth then I have no net access

Interesting that you get free broadband with a £30 mobile contract through Orange..... Time to visit my local Orange Shop I think - I currently pay around £26 to have broadband and the wireless livebox router / free phone calls thingy. Would be nice to get something different on contract and a new mobile too possibly....

Sorry  thought it was the MAC address as required by my router when connecting different PC via wireless. I'm old so allowances should be made.:D

Plusnet here also. Not too bad.

As for MAC number i presume you mean mac address? If so, start a command prompt and type :

ipconfig /all

and there it is. If it's not the MAC address then i ain't a clue :p

It's not a MAC address, it's a code given to you by your ISP when you cancel your subscription.

I've been with Plusnet for more years than I care to remember and the only problem I've had is when BT drilled through my phone cable :rofl: Service is pretty good, although since they introduced "fair usage" () I've had to moderate the amount I download a month which is probably a good thing
