What break discs and pads for a Skoda Octavia

Featured Replies

I had a health inspection check done by the dealership, and they found that the front and rear brake discs and pads need replacing. I'm considering purchasing the discs and pads myself and having them installed by a local garage to save some money while still getting branded parts.

When I search for parts using my registration "SP17 SVU" on Eurocarparts, I come across multiple options. Would anyone be kind enough to provide advice on which brake discs and pads offer the best quality and price for my 2017 Octavia?  I'm a bit confused with dimensions and brands.

I don't do more than 5000miles a year, so it could be the reason why the discs are quioity rusty.

The common reason is because Main Dealership employees can say they need replacing even if they do not.

They might say 80% worn when not 20% worn.

I would go to the local garage and ask the boss / mechanic if you need to buy anything or they do from their supplier and fit them.

(D&A Motor Factors, Dingbro or TPS.)

?

Where was the car into for the health check, was it Thomson & Potter Skoda Perth, part of the John Clark Group?

?

How much were they quoting to do the replacements?

For dimensions: check with ruler by fact; or use car's PR numbers. My car have codes 1ZE front and 1KD rear, for example.
For brands: TRW, Bosch, ATE, Ferodo, Textar for example (for normal daily driving).
!!!

If this is FaceLift model, compare height of rear discs: FL models use higher discs vs pre-FL models, 61mm vs 51mm. Even if PR number is same.

For axle beam suspension this is for sure. Not every parts catalogue is dividing this difference.

Those ATE rear discs are for preFaceLift model.

I asked my local motor factors, they were able to pinpoint the exact ones for my vehicle with just the reg. Eurocarparts was the same for me, lots to choose from. There are some option codes on the VIN sticker you can cross ref, but mine actually didn't match any of the offerings from ECP.

Ended up with "Apec" brake pads/discs, I had never heard of them before but the motor factors twisted my arm, they're cheaper than most things ECP offer, and i've had absolutely no issues with them bar being a tiny bit fiddly to fit as the backing did not extend fully around the edges like on the OE pads. The discs are good quality too, and they work just fine. Fitting kits are available for some cars that need them too.

Would I put them on a high performance vRS? Probably not, but they work fine for my normal A-B driving... so much so that i've put them on my partners car too, and they'll also go on the Fiesta when they're due.

Good point, although the OP hasn't said if his car is a facelift model or not.

As you can see in the two diagrams below, the depth changes from 51.6mm to 61.4mm with the facelift 253x10mm rear brake discs. The 1KD build code remains the same, along with the rear brake calipers and rear brake pads.
