Coolant Change and Thermostat

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm going to change my engine coolant in the next couple or weeks.

Is there anything to look out for that would seem out of the ordinary for a coolant change?

Also is there actually a mechanical Thermostat like in most older cars?

I've seen many coolant change videos on the 1.2 TSI engine and none mention the Thermostat.

So i've done some digging, but couldn't find anything on the Thermostat. The only thing I did find was about the coolant regulator. I've attached some pictures from the workshop manual website.

Is this a fancy Thermostat that doesn't need touching in a coolant change?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers 🍻

Coolant regulator must be a silly word for thermostat, there are some engines with electrically controlled coolant pumps that don't have thermostats, however these are usually very expensive high performance engines.
