Skoda Superb - iV charge flap actuator sticking

Featured Replies

The charge flap actuator is sticking in the closed position making it difficult to open the charge flap. The car is still under warranty and will be taken to the dealership for a fix. Just wondered if anyone nows the part number so that I can do a bit of research on it.

Has anyone else experienced similar trouble.

At least one other iV owner has had the same problem on this forum

Had that one time but it was really cold, I guess there was some water that froze on the pin so it jammed it incorrectly. Pushing on it many times somehow released it

The issue happened if it was hot or cold. It went to the dealer and they have changed the actuator out under warranty. It was sticking during opperation

Hi, I’ve got this issue on my 2020 Superb iV, out of warranty.

The actuator is dead and needs replacing.  I bought the part, but am looking for a guide on how to change it out.

I’ll found a guide for a Golf GTE, which seems to be installed much more simply than the superb, but wondering if anyone has seen a guide on how to change it out on the superb?

many thanks in advance….

Did you manage to sort the actuator?  Ours has started playing up and it’s 3weeks until I can get it booked in, if it’s a cheap part I will just do it myself!

Hi, I did get it sorted, but in the end had the dealer fit it when the car was in for service.

They charged for one hour labour, which seemed reasonable given the front bumper had to come off - not something I was going to attempt a diy job on!

I had got the part itself for about €50 online.

Mine failed and was done under extended warranty. The dealer (probably mistakenly) gave me the invoice, made out to Skoda. It was for about £75, parts and labour, so I guess that's what Skoda are prepared to pay for the job if they are footing the bill.

Mine failed open, so the car wouldn't start. For a week or two I resorted to the Mrs holding in the actuator pin until the car was started. After that it ran fine, with the charging flap open, until the next time. If I had been on my own at some point I'd have had to ask a random stranger to push in my pin, and that might not have gone well.

Cheers crankcase, that’s the bit I’m worried about - the car not starting.  It’s booked in for the beginning of September under warranty.

The other car is off the road having a new battery charging control module fitted that failed.  😣

If it fails closed, then the car should start. You just wouldn't be able to charge it, but at least we have petrol as a backup!

It sounds like there are a few failure modes then.

Mine failed but there was no issue with starting the car, the only annoyance was that every few minutes the warning that the charge flap is open would appear with a notification ding. If it wasn’t for the warning keep appearing I probably wouldn’t have bothered getting it fixed as the flap still closed fine, just didn’t lock.

if you’re being prevented from starting the car it sounds more like the socket is malfunctioning and thinking the cable is still connected?

Yesterday it sort of wouldn’t close properly but would start, and then the missus got one of the engineers to look at it and they got it open and used some aero silicon spray on it, it stuck open and closed a few times - will keep an eye on it and hope they fix it while I leave it.  A shame it’s not classed as a relay from Skoda.

our iPace won’t charge DC, only AC which isn’t enough for Jaguar Assist to relay the car either as it still technically charges and so I had to wait 5 wks for Jaguar dealership look at it to also say it’s broken and then order a part 👎🏼

Well if you want to ensure you get sorted in one visit you can get the part yourself, and as long as it’s a genuine VAG part they will fit it for you on the first visit.

if the actuator is stuck in the open position (or won’t stay pressed in) you can just cut the top off it so that the charge flap closes flush with the grill. The ‘lock’ function is a bit pointless anyway given the flap has a spring loaded hinge to close it.

I found this meant no problems other than the ‘check charging port flap’ warning message keeping appearing when driving along.

Today the same issue with my charging flap, is not close properly, nothing on dashbird, but when I close the car and keep the flqp pressed, its ok, but when I ipen the car, the flap also is open and no way to close, I push it hqrd, use silicon spray...nothing.
