Can not turn off daytime running lights with light switch

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2007 Octavia Estate and I can't turn off the DRL with the light switch.

The front windscreen was changed a while ago and I think the light/rain sensor was damaged by the mechanic.

I don not care if the sensors work or not, I am just interested being able to turn off the DRL since it is required for the inspection in Sweden.

Is it any easy fix you can recommend?

From VCDS: 01520 - rain and light recognition sensor (g397)

Best regard

Hello Leif, welcome to the forum. As far as I know, the DRLs do not have an option to turn off at the switch - they do switch over when the headlights are lit on my Mk3 Octavia. I'm surprised that your test requires them to be switched off ! Aren't yours required to be on at all times?

I suspect the default behaviour with a failed light sensor is DRLs on, which would mean you would need to get G397 fixed/replaced first.

Thank you for your answer, the behaviour is the same with the switch unhooked, normally I think you have to turn the switch on to have the functionality of the high beam to stay on and allso being able to make the headlight spray nozzles to work, do you know if it is  like that?

 Do you think it is possible to "remove" the lightsensor in VCDS, and would it do any difference?

Thank you! I am also surprised about this!

If it isn’t a fault there was a coding where:

Off = everything off

Auto = DRL on and dimmed+ others as needed.

Others = Dimmed DRL + corresponding lights.

I’m too am surprised they need to be turned off, but different countries have different laws, so not sure that I would be in a position to question it.
