Weird event yesterday

Featured Replies

I went outside to open my Car yesterday ( very cold and frosty). Pulled the door handle which normally just opens the car, nothing happened.

Went indoors to get the spare fob, and opened the doors using that.

Sat in the Car and pressed the start button, nothing. Car said key not present.

Went back and got the other Fob.

Still said key not present.

Checked the batteries in both Fobs with a meter. Just under full charge on both of them.

Walked to the shops and bought a new battery just in case.

Recognised the Fob and started the Car.

Tried the Fob that hadn't had the Battery changed and it was recognised.

Weird or what.

Car's maybe concerned that you need more exercise, so sent you to the shops? 😇

Less than full charge fob batteries can keep going as they warm up but at some point they are just enough not with enough power.

Just like the car batteries, and they might decide at around 5 years they are retiring for good.

Not really related, but when I went to open my frosty car yesterday morning only one door mirror folded out, and the powered tailgate was very reluctant to lift. The door mirror folded out when I used the manual control. I put it down to the frosty conditions, and reset the door mirrors to only fold and open manually.

First post, our Arona got us at Aldi on Friday. Wouldn't lock, start or do anything. Now carry a spare CR2032 for such occasions, as apparently quite a few people do. Unclipped the remote and new batter inserted. Worked. The wonders of Kessy. Evident the battery had enough charge coming out of the warm house but sitting on the back seat for 15 minutes in the freezing temperatures was enough to render it useless.
