DQ381 coasting

Featured Replies

My 2015 280 has coasting in eco mode or ( I think ) as a selection in the individual settings. I've used it a couple of times over the years .... I once used it over a full tank of fuel on the standard 3 mile commute and noticed no appreciable gain in MPG just as a test ... But then I didn't opt for this engine to worry about fuel consumption plus I only do about 7k a year on average.

I think if used carefully on long runs you may be able to eek out a few more MPG I did try that and had over 40mpg interesting but not for me.

Did you turn it off with VCDS/OBD11?

I've just seen this thread & after a few months trying to get used to the DSG I think I'll do the same. I feel like I'm constantly flicking the paddle to put back the gear or braking unnecessarily when I'm accelerating above the speed limit or towards the car in front.

Having recently acquired a Karoq Sportline TSI DSG, and coming from a 2013 VW Touran (which did not coast)  TDI DSG, I've just discovered 'Coasting', My 23 Karoq will Coast in Eco and Normal modes (I've not needed Sport mode yet!). II had deduced that coasting would only engage from a light throttle (which an OP has confirmed). Like others have said its horses for courses, Its early days yet but I'm suspecting that it would be possible to improve mpg using coast compared to using cruise (without ACC), the driver can 'read the road and traffic' lift off on downhill sections from a light throttle setting and coast  where the Cruise control cannot. My Karoq hardly seems to lose much momentum in coast and the engine remains at idle rather than switching off. I can see that I might have to adopt a slightly different driving style - thats perhaps similar to that I use in in the Electric vehicle I drive - using regenerative braking rather than the friction brakes to control speed, which tops up the battery.

'Engines switching off'  is a very different feature than 'Coasting' with the DSG,s and it disengaging from gear and 'freewheeling'.

My 280 2023 is coasting in eco/comfort modes.
