Wheels.. SKODA SUPERB SE L EXECUTIVE TSI 2019

Good morning everyone, my car has 18 inch rims. Formally being a fan of cars with hydro pneumatic suspension (hint hint), I don’t know if Skoda make rims themselves, all I do know is that there’s a little cover over the bore saying Skoda. So, as you can guess, I want to make my car as comfortable as possible without being really bad round corners and roundabouts. I gather that the official rims are 16, 17 and 18 inch? Shall I buy a set of 16 inch rims and correspondingly, maximum height of sidewalls? And if so, is there such a thing as a Skoda rim? I’m currently solving the problem by reducing the psi all round by four. Have a lovely day, and looking forward to your replies, A

I am sure you will get a thousand replies with differing opinions for wheels!

I suggest 17 inch wheels with 215/55 tyres are a good compromise - as fitted to the SE model as standard.

Those on mine were made by Ronal ( HQ in Switzerland) specifically for Skoda- both logos are cast into the rear of the wheel.

(Not so long ago there were 4 of these with nearly new Uniroyal rainsport5 tyres on eBay for just over £800).   I managed to find 2 a few years ago for about £80 each to use with winter tyres.  New cost is about/ just over  £200 each from dealers I believe. Part no. and size attached in case you want to follow up.

Out of the standard Superb MK3 wheel sizes, 215/60R16 (perhaps 215/60R16 95V) tyres fitted to 6.5Jx16 ET41 5/112 57.1 rims would give the best ride.

 

There's a choice of steel or alloy rims, as shown below.

 

You might think that alloy rims will weigh a lot less than steel rims, because the sellers will often incorrectly describe the alloy rims as "lightweight". However, the below steel rim is just over 8kg, whereas the below alloy rim is almost 10kg. With the steel rim you do have to add on the weight of the wheel trim, but even with that fitted the below alloy rim will still weigh more.

 

The 18" alloy rims on the Superb MK3 weigh around 12.1kg to 12.8kg each, so there is a considerable reduction in weight by going down to the 16" rims...as well as much better ride comfort.

Hi  Just out of  interest are those two alloys, the same but with different design?

The below image is not an alloy rim...it's a plastic wheel trim that clips onto a steel rim.

 

The second photo below shows the clips around the edge of the wheel trim that allows it to be clipped to the steel rim.

If you have 340mm front brake discs, 16" wheels won't fit unfortunately.

 

There are 16" alloys from an older Audi A8 that looks like steelies but are extraordinarily light for an OEM wheel.

 

Was gutted the caliper fouls it by about 5mm!

 

I imagine the smaller (310mm? Can't remember) might fit.

Only the most powerful Superb MK3 272HP/280HP 4x4 models use the biggest 340mm front brake discs...and consequently need at least 17" rims to clear the front brake calipers.

 

All other models use the smaller 312mm front brake discs, which allow for the fitment of 16" rims.

Also for rear axle of 272/280ps, electric brake calipers for rear 310mm are bigger than front 310
