Skoda servicing

Recommended Posts

Having been on here regarding spark plug and subsequent coil failure following a recent service i got a reply to my review of Henry’s North Glasgow —-here is the reply

Hi John, I am sorry to hear your Coil Pack failed. You're quite right when you state we change a pollen filter as recommended but don't check or change the spark plugs. The spark plugs are recommended at 40,000 miles, which is part of the Service Plan you were offered but declined. Your coil packs failure was unfortunate timing. Likewise, we didn't change your timing belt or tyres as they too were not recommended but are still open to potential failure at any given time. May I wish you all the best in the future. Keir M Dunlop, Retailer Principal, Henrys Skoda.

does this mean if out with a service plan if you book in for a service as indicated on the car you will not be offered a spark plug change.  It says on the Skoda web site 37000 miles or 4 years… had 2 services at Henry’s….my last one was Jan 2O24 and car was over  4 yrs (2019 July manufactured) and plugs/coils failed which was risky on the motorway as lost power fairly quickly ( Skoda Octavia se technology. Petrol 1.0 litre.
thanks

Spark plugs are an additional item so I think they expect you to book it in yourself.

As for servicing with Henry’s North I got my car from them but did all the services myself at a fraction of the cost.

Looks like the service doesn’t cover much, but costs a lot in my opinion.   Who really would know this unless you are familiar with the plans….when it said service/oil change and the car lets you know  and you book it in you would assume it’s getting looked after, something as basic as plugs at 4 years

so important should be done, it must out weigh the pollen filter.  You would think that they would ask you or let you know even if it an extra cost ??

This is at the bottom of the oil and inspection service on Skoda site

1.

Please note that depending on the age and mileage of your vehicle, additional items may be due during your Oil and Inspection Service. These include, but are not limited to, pollen filter, spark plugs (petrol vehicles only), air filter (petrol vehicles only) and diesel fuel filter (diesel vehicles only).

I assumed they would at least highlight them to me ??

The published Fixed Service regime is Advice, suggestions, guidlines.  It even is at odds with Variable / Flexible servicing which might be each 2 years / 24,000 months as the OP might have been having done.

The Bottom Fixed Menu as was up to 2019 was cars 3-10 years old, and should not have been what people were charged for a first Major Service at 2 years as the Spark Plugs were not replaced. Many were charged for stuff and they were not replaced.

Odd that, the same labour or less, less parts and yet the same VAT was being taken.  Take VAT have the parts still and not pay the VAT to the HMRC.

*ASk swhat is being done for your money. If there is a Service Plan it is not good enough for the Dealership Staff to say too early to replace something, after all how long is it untill ithey do get checked or replaced.   The 6 year / 60,000 mile Air Filter is ridiculous, they should be inspected at every service.

@jam1

Which Skoda website have you seen with Spark Plugs to be replaced at 37,000 miles / or 4 years?

With Audi they had stuff due at 38,000 miles, like S-tronic oil changes.  (Even DQ200,s with not servicing.)

The Difference often with VW & 9,300, Audi with 9,600 or Skoda with 9,400 for annual fixed service regimes is the km to miles which the Germans / Czech

can  it agree on stuff like 30,000 km is 18,641 miles.  15,000 km is 9,320 miles.

UK Dealerships will often Print on invoices or put a sticker on cars. Next service 10,000 miles.    The UK was only ever EU light, semi metric.

^^^  That is some mark up for the supply and fitting of OEM parts while a Service is already being paid for.

The *Free wash and vacuum* can take longer than the actual Servicing & Maintenance.

BE SURE THE BODY INSPECTION IS DONE.  This is for the Corrosion Warranty.  For when Skoda / VW UK say no record of being carried out.

That is because the T&C,s of the Warranty dio not say, Annual, bi-annual or periodic inspections are required.

Service Books used to have a page after he service page for the Inspection though.  So up to about 2011.

It was after each Major Service.

Cars should be handed in clean so the Tech / Fitter can check the Body for damage / repairs, and the Desk staff can check the car when you hand in the keys.

Checking rims as well.

How often does that Happen?   It did at Skoda Specialist Cars Dundee.

The Car Wash should then be after that and before the Service. How often does that happen, or after a road test.   A road test is not driving the car from where parked into the workshop and ramp.

This is common across many brands. A colleague had a minor success with vauxhall when his parents Corsa threw a cambelt. It had been serviced by the same dealer since new.  They failed to inform them the belt was due at the previous service only 6 months prior. He got them to cover all costs (via warranty). A rare win in such a situation.

Sorry my mistake should have been 4yrs or 40000 miles spark plug change on Skoda servicing site.  Think that is correct ?

The info provided has been great, thanks Rooted especially for all service info…will keep that.

I will make sure in future I am aware what is being done and not assume that everything is being sorted or flagged up to me. note had a boat with a Volvo engine and did all the servicing required.  I will take a similar approach, perhaps doing the simpler tasks on my car or at least paying attention to what is required/when.
A good garage should flag things up, call you and let you decide, I expected that with Skoda/Hendry garage I used and was wrong.
cheers

Those that call themselves 'Service Centers',  are often  Poor Service offered centers.

Desk and workshop staff with full time jobs doing the same thing day in and day out and not very well really.

I remember getting a ford car serviced years ago when it needed to be done every year / 12000 miles.

I think the car had about 45k on it when it was serviced at 4 years, and the clown told me it needed servicing again at 48k. 😐

Sometimes these service schedules don't make sense.

I didn't go back.
