Can't engage reverse

Featured Replies

Fabia Mk 1 2007 Had the clutch cylinder replaced all forward gears working fine but can't engage reverse  keeps jumping out accompanied by a nasty grinding sound. Any ideas, thanks.

Check the linkage alignment.

Take it back to whoever replaced the cylinder and allow them to finish the job that you have paid them for.

Master or slave cylinder?

New clutch too if the latter?

Slave cylinder

Jumping out and grinding in reverse but normal gear selection and clutch operation in forward gears does not sound like a clutch problem Pete although you probably mean "finish the job" in terms of giving the car back in working condition probably involving the gear selector cable adjustment or replacing the quadrant in its correct position.

When I did my clutch I found that someone had been there before me, a few missing bolts, some loose ones and the quadrant flopping around wearing its splines.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at.

Just wondered if the clutch had been done, as it may as well have been while GB was off, unless fairly recent.
