Dampers. I know, I know.

Looks like the difference in part codes is just the two letters at the end.

Does anyone know what these letters refer to or indicate about the shocks?

Revision, always is.
First 3 characters are model code and type (3v3 for hatch, 3v5 for combi) then area, then part, then revision. So an 8W0601025 is a rim from an 8W version Audi, but the letters will tell you the design. Some others like the LIN lights are A B C D for Front Left, Front Right, Rear Left, Rear Right etc. even numbers are on the right of the car, odd on the left. The first characters tell you the car it was designed for.  8W = chassis, 0 = no type specifics, 601 = outside  etc.

As a part is improved, new indices are created (original ARBs on the A2 are "B" index, the last OEM ones are "M", I think) but they should be taken to mean a specific version or revision of the part, not that they are necessarily a like-for-like replacement.

I’m after a ride that can control the wheels on rebound and doesn’t bounce the body over speed bumpers. I’m not after a sports car, cos it isn’t one anyway.

The standard dampers are crap at rebound and generally underdamped.

I understand the B6’s add significant damping, but it perhaps might be too much for my tastes. I was originally querying if the B4 has enough additional damping rate over OEM to fix the general issues.

There appears to be no conclusive answer from someone who has fitted the B4 to a superb. Only people who have fitted B4s to Octavia VRS and say it’s the same. But this isn’t really an indication of how they will be on the Superb. There are also good reports of B6 on Superb, but again, this may be a little far for me.

Based on this I am even more sure you will get on with the B6s. The gas pressure adds some stiffness but that only then matches the increased damping they offer. On stock height they really are excellent. Maybe hint down someone local to you to try a car with them fitted. I don't think you will get what you want from B4 or similar.

What size eibach springs did you put on? I've got a Skoda S Sportline so may have lowered by 15mm plus konis after??

I cant remember off the top of my head, but if you can take a wheel off and find the two coloured dot stickers on your own springs, it will tell us a lot on what you have fitted.....
