Nice letter in post today - notice of intended prosecution (NIP), for speeding! 35 in a 30 limit, caught on camera van, which I did not see. No excuse, and a quarter of a mile from home. Should be £100 and 3 points, on my otherwise clean licence ☹️

My first (driving for 50 years) speeding ticket, also 35, somewhere Humberside offered me the groupthink 'awareness course' - I declined, told 'em where to shove their course - cost me a little more in insurance but I got immense pleasure from writing that letter. 🤠

But don’t you then pick up points on your licence?

It'll be kept on record.

Wouldn't it be funny if you got caught again and they said you can stuff your 3 points or speed awareness course, we're going to give you a £1000 fine and a 2yr ban. :D

Think i would just rather not have the points for the next few years miself 🙁

Whether or not you do the course, it is still a conviction and must be reported to your inurance company, and also anyone elses if you are a named driver.

It's not a conviction - only a Court can convict you.

You had to admit to the offence and accept points and fine.  No court involved, but you have to inform your insurers.

Admit the offence and accept the course, no court and no need to inform the insurance.   Pith take really.  Ex Chief Constables Directors of Speed Awareness Courses Companies.

No Speed Awareness Course  offers in Scotland because no courses.

I attended a speed awareness course last year and was told there was no need for it to be reported to my insurers.

Ive had a couple of em ,there would be no point attending if you still had to tell your insurance ,who will use any reason to increase premiums 🤬

Thanks all, I stand corrected.

Maybe the answer is only if you are asked if you have been on one.

So it must all depend upon the wording in the insurance application form and if the  speed awareness course would change the answer.

E.g Have you any points for speeding.......no

Have you been convicted for speeding ..No

Have you attended speed awareness course? If the question wasn't asked you have no change to report.

I wouldn’t rely on anyone telling me not to tell my insurance I had been on the course, but would read the insurance policy, thoroughly. If it says you have to inform them, then do it.
