@laurusbaurus  maybe someplace in the thread / posts i missed it but what actual engine does your car have & how many miles done?

I hope not the cylinder head. Is it a VW Specialist that has looked at the car and are going to do the diagnosis?

It's a 2.0 TDI.

Unfortunately not a VW specialist. The local VW specialist couldn't see the car for weeks.

@Ootohere Forgot to mention it's on a little over 100k miles.

Well I heard back from the garage. They did the compression test and were able to rule out a blown head gasket. Bad news is they couldn't find where the leak is happening, found all kinds of things loose, poorly patched up starter, and a oil leak to top it off. Seems like lots of poorly done work had been done to the car before I received it. I paid for a pre-purchase inspection and they said the car was in great shape. What a waste.

This garage was even more pessimistic than the garages in Italy about finding the source of the leak. It could be the water pump, EGR valve, or Lord knows what. Talking about many hours of work to find the coolant leak.

He was honest saying I should send the car back to the dealer and get my money back considering the overall state of the engine.

Tough to hear that, but he might be right. Now I need to figure out my rights. It's been about 60 days since I purchased the car which should normally be fine, but wouldn't be surprised if they give me grief for driving 2500 miles round trip down to Italy and back.

Plenty more fish in the sea, send it back.

I can never understand this can't find the leak a good old fashioned mechanic  would put more effort in and it's not usually that difficult but I know of a SEAT Leon that took three attempts to find the leak when it was a know possible on any garage data service.  It is more likely no one wants the hassle of replacing what they might find leaking and there could be more than one leak, plenty of plastic parts in German cars.

I once had a leak on a brand new car that two garages could find under warranty but just by looking I soon found it, tightened up a jubilee clip (onto metal part) yet I'd been told a specialist company had done a pressure test, and this was 20+ years ago and I don't think things have improved in the motor trade.

Get an old-ish Toyota or Honda.

Good luck.

Hi all,

Mine also has a coolant leak. One thing I've come across is the egr intercooler seal can start leaking over time. I've been thinking of blanking my EGr but it might be worth checking in and around that area for coolant residue.

Yeah I'm 0 for 3 on garages finding the leak. Pretty disappointing.

When this is all over, I'm still tempted to get another Superb. I suspect I was very unlucky with this one. The space and comfort the Superb offers is perfect for me and my family.

And I've been driving Toyotas since I first started driving 20 years ago. Absolutely reliable but have to say I really wanted a change. Honda seems like more of the same! :D

Thank you for the luck. I'll need it.

Tough break mate. Have you taken it for inspection anywhere?

Mine is also 2016. Perhaps a bad year for Superbs and coolant...

Hopefully you didn't use tap water too 😱

Nope, just the best Italian grappa I could find. The original antifreeze!
