There is nothing to stop you asking Skoda UK although I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Agreed. I think they will say no, citing type approval or some such regulation that doesn't apply in the UK but constrains the factory.

As for speedo.   Of the wheel/tyre combinations Skoda provides for the Karoq, in 16", 17", 18", and 19", all four have rolling circumferences within 1.5% of each other.   The four 4WD fitments all have slightly higher rolling circumferences, but they are again within 1.5% of each other.  I'd guess there may be a different final drive ratio on the 4WD and speedo calibration is likely fixed according to whether it's 2WD or 4WD.  Hence I think they would say calibration can't be changed, and in any case it is not necessary.

The Karoq front wheel drive and Karoq 4x4 have different tyre sizes as shown below. It's unlikely that any of the Karoq 4x4 tyre sizes will be on the Karoq front wheel drive's CoC (Certificate of Conformity). So the only other 19" tyre size that the factory could fit (although I doubt they would do that on a one off basis) is 235/40R19. I suspect you will have to sort out your own alternative tyre and/or rim sizes. One Karoq front wheel drive owner fitted 225/45R19, but rather than the standard 8Jx19 ET45 rims fitted narrower 7Jx19 ET43 rims from the Kodiaq. Fitting 225/45R19 to the narrower (non-standard) 7J rims would provide a noticeable improvement in ride comfort (and better protection from kerbing damage) than fitting this tyre size to the wider 8J rims. The Kodiaq fits 235/50R19 to its 7Jx19 ET43 rim, so the 225/45R19 is quite a bit lower sidewalled...but fits the Karoq.

Bear in mind that even 225/45R19 on 7J rims won't ride anywhere near as well as 16" and 17" wheels on the Karoq, but it's still a big improvement in ride comfort compared to the 225/40R19 on 8J rims.

It is just frustrating - apart from the tyre/wheel size,  I really like the Sportline so guess I will just have to put up with what is fitted. I am not really the type to fiddle/source alternative stuff after delivery hence my questions. I think I will reluctantly order the performance package that includes dynamic chassis control (DCC) and hope that this makes things a little more bearable. What makes it more galling is that in the past the Sportline came with 18” wheels (215/40/r18?) for a while so it seems you just have to put up with whatever Skoda decides to fit.

Skoda will often specify different wheel sizes depending on the market. The UK will often get more extreme wheels (ie. bigger rims, lower sidewalls) than many European countries. For example, in Finland and Germany the Karoq Sportline comes with 18" wheels as standard, with 19" wheels available as an option. That might be the norm among the other European countries too.

It's Skoda UK's decision on what spec is sold in the UK.

They decide that the Sportline get 19" wheels with 40 series tyres and that the SEL (Style in other markets) doesn't get Matrix LED. In most other markets mid spec style gets Matrix LED.

Skoda UK also choose what is available as options and what you have to buy in packs.

More and more people are complaining about big wheels but it seems UK buyers still like the bling of big wheels in the showroom.  Not helped my most of the motoring press.

When anyone wants smaller rims and more sidewalls look at what the recommended wheel / tyre size is for using with Snow Chains for your particular vehicle even if you are never going to use snow chains.   That might suit you as far as practicality and comfort.  Maybe narrower, but then the max speed limit is 70 mph in the UK. As to Type Approved, they are the manufacturers recommendation.

Never bothered to look at tyre/wheel size on my Sportline, until today. Mine is 2wheel drive 1.5 DSG, first registered April 2023, and fitted with 18 inch wheels and Goodyear tyres. No complaints re ride quality from me or passengers.

Unfortunately, the sportline has gone back to 19 inch wheels - would much prefer yours/18” but  unfortunately don’t have any choice if I wish to continue with the order
