Automatic locking system override

Featured Replies

I purchased a new Kamiq and found straight away that the Automatic locking system didn't have an override on the computer as earlier models had . The doors automatically lock when car reaches 15klm per hour and has to be overriden manually if you fail to so it states in the handbook a warning that this will prevent emergency services gaining entry say if the driver collapse or fainted as has happened in several instances. This make this vehicle a potential deathtrap. Skoda have recognised this design fault and say the technical team are trying to resolve it .

Look beneath the heater control knobs. You should see a button with a padlock diagram on it. Press and hold and it should disable the auto locking. To reactivate just hold it down again. On most cars with this feature the autolock should disengage in the event of an accident.

I am aware of the padlock release but its annoying as reengages when you decrease speed and move off again continually I also understand its supposed to disengage in a collision but that's  not what I am saying.

This override was on earlier models but now dropped. But thanks for your reply.  The dealer didn't bring it to our attention and until you take possession you wouldn't know .

Yes I have it in writing and a dealership which Skoda recommended I should go to to get it resolved who failed also confirmed that Skoda stated its team where trying to resolve this issue.

Dealership is Meadens of Brockenhurst.

@Daveview  Is that someone @ Skoda / VW UK HQ that put it in writing?

As long as there is a name and job title for the person that is something that can help others.

I will keep you all posted how things progress and how they resolve it .

Sadly honesty can be a stranger to them.

Sadly the dealership where I bought my car is tared with the same brush although allegedly they are the careing garage .😀

Skoda say its a safety feature then the next minute issue a warning in the handbook stating it could stop emergency services gaining entry .

I even have it in writing that the locking system will not disengage on impact !!

I will not give up even though they all hide behind the Motor Ombudsman as their opt out.

Has anyone ever resolved it ?

Just seen your comments on Facebook 😂

I had an Octavia for 14 years and put 100,000 untroubled m8les on the clock and traded it in for this potential deathtrap, big mistake!

Kamiq 1.5  Tsi SE.

PS pleased you found it amusing, I don't!

Emergency services are getting in with their Glass hammer as will members of the general public that are 'simply clever' enough to carry them in their vehicles.

If you are going to drive into floods, rivers, canals etc get a Glass breaking hammer in your car and to hand.

The cars got through Type Approval as the 'Safety features' evolved.

Report to the DVSA if you believe there is faulty design and Skoda UK says it requires resolving and yet they are not doing that.

Trust me, in the very unlikely event that you should ever be involved in an incident whereby the emergency services need immediate access they WILL get in, no bother whatsoever.

It really isn’t the death trap scenario you seem to think it is.

BTW, this post is meant to be reassuring, but I bet I still get some stick for it🙄

I’ve had one fitted to both cars for many many years, I’d think that the OP’s not planning on starting to use that sort of thing AFTER the emergency services have turned up - so in this case your comment is irrelevant.

They are intended, I’ve always assumed, to be used as a form of “self help” before outside help turns up.

Great that there are still cars with a HAND Brake that the passenger might try applying as the driver faints or has a heart attack or what ever while dtiving.

The e-Brake (finger brake) being applied by a passenger is a scary thing when done by mistake, i dread to think how it will be with a driver not awake to be doing any driving.

Better than nothing i suppose.

Mine is the opposite, although 2022 model, doesn't auto lock which is fine I can manually press the big fat lock button. But there's a menu to access the settings to turn off/on, but when doing so a pop-up say's "this function is unavailable right now"

Actually just noticed after a software update the door settings option isn't on the menu anymore in vehicle settings.

I would imagine this can be permanently disabled by coding using VCDS or similar, but its not clear if that would satisfy the OP. Garage probably won't do it without nod from Skoda that they will accept any resulting liability and Skoda UK won't want to give that.

Just tried plugging VCDS into our 2023 Kamiq but I haven't got the latest VCDS interface so couldn't access the controller.  If I were that bothered it's the route I would follow though.
