Issues with TMC follwing satnav update

Featured Replies

When I bought my Superb in 2016 with Columbus infotainment, I would get traffic warnings on the satnav, and could also search for warnings using the traffic button. In 2022 I decided to update satnav data, and that went OK, but I lost the traffic info. I updated again last week using the latest update on the skoda portal, and I still don't have traffic info. When I press the button, the screen gives a no info message.

Anybody else have this issue, and have you managed to fix it, it was very useful on long journies from Scotland to Solihull.

As another small issue, I keep getting right rear pressure loss indications, even though there is nothing wrong with the tyre pressures, I check them every time I get it, and I am getting a bit fed up now, its been happening for about 3 years.

But, I do love my Superb estate, drives a lot better than my A4 Avant.

They stopped transmitting the preferred traffic info. There is another provider that you can switch to, which works in Scotland (the old one didn’t work in most of Scotland). It requires VCDS or equivalent to change the setting. I’ll have a look for the relevant thread….

Cant help with the TPM thing, I do get the occasional false warning but only about once every 6 months.

here you go…

I update the maps every 6 months when a new version is released and I too lost traffic info a while back.  The updates haven't affected the traffic info system as I was in Germany earlier this year and it was working fine over there.  It even comes up in English!

Thanks to NickNorman for the thread. I will have to follow this through and see if I can use an alternate provider.

I must be able to as Penpusher reports his works in Germany. Unless of course TMC are still broadcasting in Europe but not UK.

Again many thanks to NickNorman and Penpusher for their replies.

204 Incidents showing today, but it's not a Skoda

I read all of the info in the thread that NickNorman has posted earlier. Seems to be simple to do.

Borrowed my brother in laws XTool fancy gadget and plugged in to the superb. It found everything that the electronics do including Traffic Information which was switched OFF. What it did not do was allow me to turn it back on, I could do lots of other things withn it like alter default seetings for radio volume, and start the engine etc, but not the one thing I wanted to do. Spent about an hour trying to find the setting to cahnge to 14, but nothing. So tried with brother in laws older OBD11 device which he used on his VW caddy van. This could not find the traffic setting at all, probably too old a version.

The question is what exactly do I need to be able to change this setting. I have had a look online for vcds, and I see that the software is available as a downlaod, I have a laptop, so that part is easy. Its just the connection to the car. The price of 'VCDS' adaptors is frightening for just small simple change, over £500 in some cases, so thats a no go.

There has too be an inexpensive way, I don't mind 50 or 60 quid or thereabouts, but what exactly do I need to buy?

As always many thanks for any help any one can provide.

I only have experience of doing it with VCDS. Yes it is expensive but I have found it well worth it over the years, this is our 3rd VW group car and I do all the servicing. You are paying for the support behind the software design, rather than the hardware. If you don’t want to shell out for it, then perhaps you could ask for someone in the area with VCDS to help you. Alternatively an independent garage with expertise in VW group cars might be able to help you, especially if you go armed with exactly what needs to be changed.

You need to contact a member with VCDS…

… and they will either know how to change the data provider or can follow the instructions in the guide; it’s not difficult, even a twit like me managed it it 10 mins (8 of which was waiting to get VCDS to open!).

I've just done this on my 2015 and it worked on mine, changed the value from 15 to 14 and rebooted unit (long press on power button).

Used my old OBDeleven dongle, into multimedia control unit, into adaptations and typed TMC in search bar to find setting.

I bought OBDelven dongle years ago so quite an old unit but found setting - not sure why taff_b can't find it. Guessing his OBDeleven app on phone/tablet was up to date???

That’s good news that you were able to use OBDEleven. I don’t know anything about the system but did you require credits to make adaptations? Perhaps the OP is out of credit? Dunno. Wait ‘n’ see.

When looking in the app it says it's the "Lifetime" plan, and the dongle is the original small white unit. The app says I can upgrade to the "ULTIMATE VAG" whatever that is..... but I've got VCDS anyway so no need to upgrade for me.

When I did the adaptation I didn't notice anything about using credits but I know they've changed how things work with newer licenses/dongles....

Yeah, thought that’d be the case; nice one. Early adopters generally get great deals. I use Sygic and have all options available at the time but I only paid a one off fee of £9.99 about 6 years ago.

I agree 100% with this, I too purchased Sygic, lifetime for small money. Also purchased Carista when is was in its early stages,. lifetime also.

Superb was in for its service today. I asked service reception to get the technician (not mechanics anymore, they cannot fix, just replace) to change the setting as he would have the vcds plugged in to check the fault codes. They said they would ask the technicin if they could do it, answer was, never been asked before, not sure as I don't normally use that part of the software. Will give it a go, but will probably cost you.

It did cost, it was an extra 30 mins of labour (£63) but they did manage to do it and I have Traffic Info back, and lots of it in Scotland this evening, 41 alerts.

A bit pricy, but I am happy that it is now working. By the way I printed off the settings page from the other thread mentioned above, and gave that to them with what I wanted the setting changed to.

Thanks to all that responded
